899 899 Kriega Luggage To France,

  1. Back from a 1400+ mile tour to France with my 899 (second owner & now circa 2200 miles).

Here is a photo of the 899 before leaving with a 20lt and two 10lt kriega's either side.

When using the 10lt alone on runs out I notice the Kriega 899 holding straps allow the tail pack to slide forward.. If you use the middle roll secure you can tuck it under the rear seat/tail unit to keep in place. As shown by photo should it load...

I must say the comfort of my stock 899 was amazing on this tour.

  2. Nice.. I'm planning on taking my 899 to france this year so will need to invest in some kriega kit.

Did you tour in leathers or textiles? I'm thinking I will need to buy some textiles as my two piece will become uncomfortable.

  3. We went to the south of Italy last year with similar luggage but before Kriega released the proper kit. I've posted the phots a million times but they still make me laugh at how ridiculous it is. I had a 5 litre petrol container in one side which was just unnecessary!

  4. By the way, are you able to post any pictures of the fittings? My heath robinson setup wrecked my seat unit a bit and I had to buy some new parts, so I'm looking at getting the proper Kriega kit if it is better. The marks on the plastic are from gaffa tape that I had to use on the trip. My rear straps were attached to the tail tidy underneath hence the soft material to protect the paint work. Not the cleanest solution but practically it worked well.

  5. Did you find the petrol can came in useful? My biggest worry about touring on the 899 is the short range.

I have the kriega fit kit for commuting on my 899 and it works nicely.

Because of a mistake with my kriega fitting kit order (a missing washer) they sent me a second kit to replace the first but I'd fitted the kit with a washer I found in the garage so I have a spare kit kicking about now. :/ Will put it in the classified eventually.

  6. I used the SW Motech panniers and found them to be a very good piece of kit. Easy to attach. Don't look to massive on the back of the bike.

  7. I didn't use the petrol can at all, complete waste of time. There were a few times where we were cruising into a petrol station on fumes but I wouldn't bother taking it again, it wasn't worth the extra weight and size of luggage.

  8. Wow they look great although expensive.
I used the Kreiga gear as I already had it and that's one of its many advantages.

Below is the picture of the fitting kit o my 899, which is a reasonable price and the local bike shop gives 15% off to our club, job done!

Oh, I found after a short 170 mile bash that one of the rear bolts (bottom right in photo) had came loose so I applied some thread lock and after 1400 miles in France all still good...

  9. Hi, you can check out my video here on YouTube

Showing how I fitted the Kriega tank adapter to my Ducati 899...

  10. My Kriega gear on the bike at the Arctic Circle. A 20 plus 2 x 10's. I found it rubbed a bit on the paint, even when pulled real tight, but should buff out.
Tank range was fine. Was safely getting 220km between fillups and squeezed 280km to a tank when I was in Ukraine due to being told not to use a particular fuel station due to low quality petrol.

  11. I had same set up to France in May and only issue was the under seat straps pulling the seat unit up so a spider net over the top was necessary to keep it all on the bike. There are Kriega straps to bolt to the ones under the seat but I guess I could just make holes in these straps and use a couple of washers. Carried loads of stuff without a petrol can which tbh not necessary unless you are going way off piste:grinning:
