Who here uses a bluetooth headset and where do you have it mounted, side or back? Pros and cons for both!
We use Sena SMH10 bike to bike. Did not know that you could mount them on your back, ours are on the side of the helmets.
I have a Sena SMH5 which I've had clamped to the left side of my helmet. Today, though, I realised that it's possible to get wireless (Bluetooth) earphones for iPhones so I'm looking at some of them as an alternative.....but I suspect they won't fit comfortably under a helmet
I have a Scala G9 mounted on the side. I think even though it's voice controlled you'd have a job pressing some of the buttons if it was mounted on the back of your helmet.
I just ordered a G9x today as I'm fed up with the Autocom helmet cable link, plus I'm hoping it will connect to my mates Schuberth SRC helmet sets?
I use the Schuberth SCRS system on a C3 helmet - all very neat as it replaces the original helmet collar. It also is A2DP so connect to most, if not all, Bluetooth devices.
Nearly went for the S2 + SRC helmet, but at £750ish, when my RX7 is still in decent condition, was a step to far for a tightarse like me!
Interphone F5 - use it for phone, sat nav, pillion comms and bike to bike (also radio and music streaming available which I don't bother with). Mounted on left side of helmet; however, right pain to change modes/volume at speed. Thinking of investing in one of the handlebar mounted bluetooth controllers advertised in the biking press.
Been looking at various headsets today, but just can't get my head around: 1. Do I really want a big lump of plastic stuck to the side of my lid (safety and wind noise a consideration?) 2. I really only want one for satnav instructions (taking calls whilst riding can't be a good idea can it?), so would love just a Bluetooth earplug type solution....
Sony Ericsson do a range of Bluetooth earphones. The model I have is MW-600 and is about £35. Perfect if all you want is Bluetooth music and sat nav. I have a scala rider headset for pillion chat and phone calls. No A2DP profile though so no satnav directions or music unless I use a wire. I will upgrade at some point but both types of headset are doing me fine so far. Get the sony headphones if you just want music and satnav. Best set of headphones I've owned. They also do a new model called SBH52 & SBH50
Looks like a decent solution JH, thanks for that. How do you get on with the buds staying in your ears when putting your lid on? I assume you have to have the main module in a jacket pocket and run the lead up to your lid?
They're the buds that sit in your ear rather than the standard Apple type ones that sit on your ear and always fall out. No problems inside a helmet whatsoever. I'd suggest the SBH50 or 52 as I think they are rain proof so you can clip it to the outside of your jacket and access the controls still. I slightly open a zip and clip it half in the pocket.
Wow I use my Scala G9 for every thing it connects to the pillion and 8 other compatible headsets, my satnav, phone, MP3 and has radio, all through Bluetooth except the radio, I have no problems with noise at speed as it's full duplex and the louder the noise out side the more the volume goes up. The battery lasts all day, I Cant fault it. I did have the Autocom with Bluetooth for my satnav but it was crap all those wires and having to connect every time we got on the bike and if the socket got wet you'd get feedback through your speakers all the time.
Similar to the Sony MW-600 is the Samsung HS3000 that I use, I use in ear headphones as well and they stay in very well under my helmet and also work as earplugs comparison of them both here
Cardo Q3 on Arai Tour X4, very happy for music via A2DP from the phone, radio fm and phone calls. I can't be bothered with GPS instructions, I just use the visual.
I "downgraded" from Sena 20s to Sena SMH10R a few months ago. The SMH10R is smaller and less noticeable, and provides all the functionality that I actually used on the 20s
Scala G9, does everything. Can b complicated as there are many functions and few buttons. Once you get ur head round it, it's brilliant. Again don't bother with sat nav instructions as it messes up if u have music playing so visual is good enough.
