+1 for the SMH10R, very discreet on the side of the helmet. The only issue I have with it is the battery life which appears to be a little less than the SMH10, still good for a full days riding with constant open mic bike to bike comms.
The problem I have with Bluetooth sets is the earpiece. With plugs in, road noise and engine noise I can hardly hear anything - certainly not above 40mph. Ended up buying some "ultimate ears" made-to-measure ear plugs with built-in speakers. Took a little bit of tweaking to get them right but now they're the mutts nuts. No wind noise, can still hear surrounding noises (sirens, etc) but the sound quality is the same - at all speeds. I only wanted bluetooth for radio / music, so I'll only use my Interphone F5 if ive got a pillion. Got a lead to connect the plugs into the bluetooth system so I could use it that way. I've found Bluetooth to be pretty crap since getting the iPhone 6 anyway. I bought TomTom Rider 400 and that won't connect to the phone either.
I'm guessing you use your Ultimate Ears to plug straight into your phone, and use that for music and satnav?
Unreserved recommendation here for the SMH10. Been using them for ages. Does everything well, easy to pair, enough volume, even with earplugs in, control easy to use with gloves on, upgradeable software, decent bike to bike (line of sight - bit shorter with the odd curve thrown in). I love 'em.
I use the smh-5 as I like to listen to the radio when im going anywhere on the motorway . SMH5-FM - Sena
Just seen the promotional video for PackTalk and it looks great. Just need to find some friends who don't mind spending £250. or just friends, anybody :-(
Interphone F5 on the Arai when playing out with mates and a Schuberth C3 + SRC when out touring with the missus.
Interphone f3mc on my arai chaser blast..... Does the job.. Streaming music and taking calls at high speeds .. nice and clear... also voice control for answering calls ... "Just talk to your helmet and say "Hello")... if its the mrs you stay quiet......
Got my Scala G9x today and took about 2 hours to fit, due to having cut & hot-glued the Autocom speakers into the Arai ear pieces, so had to patch them up a bit (£49.99 for a new pair!!!). So far so good, radio, phone, satnav and wired iPod connection all working a treat - just need to pair up to mates SRCs on Wednesday and the jobs a goodun' - no more sodding Autocom wire Be interesting to see if my '76 Kettles lack of suppressors allows the unit to work?
Hi there - I've got a G4 had it for yrs, it won't connect to the multi, just wanted to check before I lash out on G9x that you haven't had any problems connecting or using etc? Or might go Packtalk route...!
Sorry, my bike is a 2010, so no Bluetooth connectivity anyway? I have no problems linking to my satnav and iPhone, other 9x users or Schuberth fitted Cardo systems.
There are 15 videos on You Tube by a guy named MotoGeek Freak explaining all the functions of Scala PackTalk . It's a bit complicated trying to remember which buttons do what !. There is a roller wheel on the side of the headset for volume control / mute that is quite easy to use with a gloved hand. There is also a smart phone app you can download which makes controlling all the functions so much easier for numbties like me. It's on a par with the Sena 20 s but has the added bonus of being fully waterproof as opposed to shower proof. The DMC function claims to give added range and instant reconnection when back in range. It can also do pure 'old fashioned' bluetooth to other comms systems through Cardo Gateway. I got a Packtalk Duo from FC Moto as a Christmas present from her indoors for €320 . Haven't tried bike to bike in DMC mode yet as you need other riding buddies (up to 10 riders can connect simultaneously) that also have Packtalk. It's got 6 stored radio presets and an auto seek function for the next strongest station. Paired to my Garmin Zumo 660 satnav , Samsung S5 , and the second headset easily enough. Battery life easily lasts for a days riding. Only down side was it's a bit too quiet at high speed for satnav instructions with earplugs in ( but I'm a bit deaf due to not using earplugs 40 years ago with my Kangol Gladiator helmet ). I got around this by soldering my old Autocom speakers to the Packtalk headset. Mrs doesn't have a problem with volume though, so it must be my shit hearing. Music off phone or satnav is good quality. Look at the You Tube videos and download the phone app if you are going to get one it saves all the squabbling with the wifey making her walk around the house with helmets on saying " can you hear me now ".
Sena 10U, only fits a limited range of helmets. My touring buddy has just invested in the same despite not having a Shoei that's on the list, looking at it last night it'll still fit but earpieces will need to be Velcroed in, i.e. the same as most normal headsets. One of the distinct advantages is that everything, with the exception of the bar mounted remote, is within the shell of the helmet solving the ugly, unaerodynamic wart on the side of your lid and making it relatively impervious to the weather. More robust as well with no exposed wires or clips to break. Spec is similar to the 20s I believe. Can connect to two separate A2DP devices, FM radio, group of four riders, universal intercom to connect with other brands (this compromises your other connections though and the reason my mate is buying one to replace his Interphone f4). There's an app to allow setup from your phone and a program for your PC to carry out firmware updates and configuration. As a former Autocom user with, dare I say it, a good robust, effective working system I'm going to be hard to please. I have also bought the SR10 Bluetooth hub so I can hook up my PMR radio for longer range bike-to-bike. Quite a few of my riding buddies use these with Autocom systems. As a frequent leader of group rides PMR is a good way to say in contact with the TEC, Bluetooth intercom is insufficient in terms of range for this purpose. Early days, yet to test in motion or set-up bike power for the SR10. There are apparently ground loop issues to deal with there. Have a separate thread on the 10U on here and will update that once I'm a little further into the ownership experience. If all is satisfactory Autocom will go onto eBay as it's a good time of year to sell.
Sena 10U in Schubert C3 Pro, absolutely outstanding! Sena 10U Bluetooth Headset For Schuberth C3 / C3 Pro - RevZilla We have used Cardo Scala Rider for about 10 years, fair function until we bought C3 helmets with SRC (Cardo), then the troubles began. Old soft ware in the Bluetooth device and that´s it. Now with new helmets and Sena I´m just overwhelmed, everything works from the beginning, phone, gps, intercom, other bikes connection and so easy to set up!
I have the pro src system and connects perfectly with my android 5.0.2 and motorcycle TPV, also it works the phone with lynk multistrada
