1199 Ohlins Vs. K-tech

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by F10W3R, Jul 16, 2015.

  1. Im going to be upgrading the suspension soon and have always used either Ohlins or K-tech. Has anyone used either on a Panigale and have and helpful advice or recommendation. I'm going to be aiming to get back into racing next year if im fast enough so need it to be right. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Cheers, matt.

  2. Ive ridden a fireblade for two days on track ( hard to compare i know to a 1098s-different bikes ) with ktech springs up front and Penske rear shock - quite nice, very smooth and didnt feel harsh at all. I loved it.

In saying that i think the Ohlins offer great feedback too but are not as soft. The standard spring rates in my 1098 felt hard ( which they are ) by comparison.

To be honest, id give the ktech a whirl, if you dont like them you will have no problems moving them on. Prob cost you a lot less too over ohlins ?

rob not the info you are looking for but may help.

    ( I rode an 1199s for a couple of hrs a week ago, what a bike ! )

  3. Penske shocks are a work of art - I bought one for a project as new, just refurbished by an Ohlins technician who said it was top notch quality. The still supply most of the F1 grid I think.

  4. im no guru but the penske felt more underneath me, the ohlins feels more rigid...like its attached as opposed to part of the bike. If that makes sense !

  5. A lot of that may be dialled out with shims etc

I have run ohlins forks and liked how a click made huge a difference. I hated how it blew seals for fun.

I run 25mm ktech sbk kit in current bike and a click makes less difference but they still feel great. But some of this could be the rebuild I paid for wasn't done properly...

  6. Depends if you mean a ktech cartridge or ktech forks up front. KTR-3 are meant to be mega forks, along factory lines.

  7. I ve got k tech front and rear and was worried it would be to stiff, but I am pleased to say it's smoother and more comfortable than then standard

  8. Cheers guys. I haven't ridden a big twin on track before so wasn't sure which way to go. Going to check out the prices and see from there.

  9. On track in my opinion my k tech is smoother than my mate ohlins and he agrees
