Yes about 20 years ago and it was the most humiliating experience I ever had. I recently had a gastroscopy about a monthe ago and that was a much better experience as I was sedated. If you get the option, take the sedative. Andy

Agree about purging the system , I have had a couple now and have tried with and without the sedative, in my case I will opt for without every time. Steve
Yes I have had a colonoscopy, with sedatives. It's certainly no picnic, but it doesn't actually hurt or do you any harm. And you get to find out whether you have anything seriously wrong with your lower intestine or not, which is worth knowing.
I've had with and without and if ever I have the misfortune to have this unholy procedure carried out on my one way valve I will opt for seditive and anything else on offer.
Yes, I've had one. I presume @idrinkbeer that you might be having one? My experience was very positive. I was treated extremely well and the proceedure was carried out under seditive. Modern anesthesia has come on significantly since the days where you were effectively knocked out. I don't know what was used, all I can say is I never felt any discomfort, and moments after the 'invader' was removed I woke to full consciousness feeling alert and ready for action. The proceedure is not totally without risks, but the risks are extremely small, and the benefits of early detection, if anything is wrong, far outweight the risks. I am hugely grateful to the nhs for providing such an excellent service. This proceedure can save lives, so it's a no-brainer imo to have one if you are offered it. @Birdie I'm interested in why, if you were to have another colonoscopy, you would choose not to have the seditive.
I found it much easier than the two endoscopy procedures I've endured - the most unpleasant thing since having my knee stitched up without anaesthetic
Yes I've had a few. They thought I had crones disease but it turned out It was ulcerative colitis . Nothing to worry about .
Mervyn I agree with what you say,since becoming very ill and requiring operations you quickly realise how important the nhs really is. We need to realise what is important in life , family,friends,love .....and farts !
The first one with sedative gave me stomach cramps for hours after as I was unable to pass wind during the proceedure due to the sedative, the cramps were so bad I stood leaning on the car with my head in my hands nearly crying, without the sedative I was in control of my bowls and released the wind and had no after effects at all. I have, several times in the past. I have the link stored and every now and again re-read it just for the crack. Never fails to have me in stitches .......Pure genius!
