Hi all, I'm a newbie here, already a Ducati owner as I have a lovely little Monster 696 which I have had for over a year now and I'm looking to change to a Panigale 899 in the next month or so. To date the missus has not been on the back of the bike but she's now starting to get a bit keen, however I recently read many comments on the comfort and practicality of pillions on the 899 and wondered what peoples thoughts were. Serious ones only please, i.e. not things like tell her to meet you there in the car etc etc!! If the standard seat is not practical are there options to replace, and where from?? The majority of the time it'll just be me and the 899 and she's not likely to be on the back for hours on end, not without frequent stops anyway!! I'd welcome any thoughts and comments?? Thanks
Don't do it........ take the pillion pegs off and throw them away. Keep the monster if you want to take a pillion. IMO.....
A very good welcome to you, the pillion seat on all the Panis is tiny, it looks very uncomfortable, i have got to fit my pegs an seat to take my 1199 to take my wife,s friend for a ride, i hope her arse will not hang over to much!, as Vaio says keep the monster for pillion
crazy idea. 2 up on a sportsbike... Just buy a cheap transalp or similar and keep the pani for solo riding.
I can't afford to have multiple bikes for differing requirements, surely a pillion seat is there for a reason??
it is, but for a short hop....not for long periods imo. Try it out, it will be more difficult for the pillion than it will be for you.
I would rather pillion on the monster for a long journey That's bad enough for clashing heads never mind the compact space on the 899 plus holding on while braking You won't want to be crawling along on the 899 You will need a tiny size 8 mega fit wife Hello and welcome into the mad house
I h I have a tiny, size 8, mega fit, fearless daughter, who has cage dived with great whites in South Africa. She's had one helmet banging go on the 999. She hasn't asked for another and the missus won't even contemplate it. Hence the removed foot peg hangers...
Been thousands of miles 2up on 999 + Tankbag/backpack. Both 62 years, Im 6'x15st, she's 5'3" 10st. Wouldnt do it on 899 though.
I personally think the multi is a good two up The SS was great for fast riding and cuddling up The monster was ok but I always felt like I was going to fall off The 996 a quick journey is fine If the pillion wants to see the world and no head butting and trying to hold on under hard breaking I would choose the multi Otherwise get the woman in your life her own bike
The problem is the height differential with so much power in both brakes and motor. The 999 has phenomenal throttle response and super powerful brakes but the pillion is a lot higher than the rider, so can't easily cling to the rider or reach the tank, unless the rider is tall and the pillion is short. Can't see it being much different with an 899...
I dont give it beans 2up in low gears and ride dual carraigeways mainly so not chucking it around. She sometimes holds onto jacket at bottom or side straps depending on jacket. She 1st went pillion when we met 12yr ago and shes never head butted me once. She looks over my shoulder and reads the road. Natural talent! Tested to 160 but digs my ribs at about 125. She keeps eye on speedo somehow.
25st is nearly 159kgs.......add backpack/tankbag and that's equal to the dry weight of the 899.........just saying...
