Ducati Prepares Mysterious New Bike, Press Launch Set For September 2015 | motorcycle News @ Top Speed
If it is a " streetfighter" ( what a name :Banghead:, yes I never liked it ) version of the 899 or 1299 ( like some of the euro mags are going on about ) Id hardly think its anything to go crazy about? Im not knocking it, but naked versions of sportsbikes are hardly ground-braking, although wheelie good fun and nice to look at. ( But i dont think it is the above ) Here's my theory.... With the 1199 being somewhat successful in racing, but not as much as Ducati wanted, maybe they went back to the drawing board, not a lot, but just a bit. The 1299 was launched, an updated 1199 more or less, but, was the 1299 produced to refine the design in the Panigale, and address the slightly flighty 1199 handling, and sheer ferocity of the bike that scared a few owners...? I myself reckon they have a new sportsbike. I don't know what cc or config, but i reckon its a sports / race bike. A V4 config is possible but could be v pricey. With DVT, who knows what they've been up to in r&d. Think about it.............They cant enter the 1299 into WSBK for instance, so what do they need to do to address that, if they feel the 1199 is not making the leaps and bounds they need it to make in racing to be #1 ? That's what i reckon.
899 evo decent paint job and single swing arm , aluminium tank , magnesium enginecasings , where do I put my deposit please .
But would that necessitate a 'track launch' unless there were other changes? My guess is it's a different model being announced, maybe a street fighter but at the same time they will announce the updated 899
I still reckon they would find a decent market for a small, light supersports bike with about 100bhp.
I don't want to stir that pot again but... 600cc supermono based on a panigale engine? Fits in the range! Frame mounting might be an issue though ;-)
I don't think they can sustain more than 4 models of superbike in their range, 3 being the 1x99 series and the 899, that's a lot of very similar bikes in terms of sales profile. Honda have 2, Yamaha have the R1/R6 and Kawasaki the same, even Suzuki only have 3 sports bikes. So Ducati having 5+ in the range, not so sure.
