Hi all, Ive leafed through the many many posts about tank sealing, por15, ethanol issues and everything and now Im utterly confused. What have people done? I'm on a 2002 750ss ie and its got a weep as opposed to a leak.
For your problem, POR15 is the easiest and currently most reliable DIY repair. POR15 is resistant to all petrols including high % ethanol. Everything is in the preparation as the fluids used to cure any rust and then key the inside surface of the tank ready for the final skin is quite caustic to paint. Had it seal my track 748 tank a year ago and have had no problems. Andy
+1 for POR15 I assume your "weep" is from around the plate with the hinge on it at the back of the tank, if it's like the 900SSie. I believe the spot welds develop hairline cracks. Poor design and construction, but POR15 fixed mine - for good measure I added a layer of the glass fibre tissue that that is included in the kit, and injected epoxy resin into the gaps I could get at under the hinge plate on the outside. Your only other real alternative would be to get someone to work on brazing/welding the tank, and that would probably then require a respray.
