Newbie Dvt Purchase Advise

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by D4VE, Jul 25, 2015.

  1. Be gentle I'm a first timer !

Ayup fella's, I hope you can give me some advice, I've been reading all your posts for several months now regarding the new multi, after owning several decatis I thought it was time to drop BMW and buy Italian again, a new DVT ! So several calls to Sergio at ducati Manchester as they have a white dvt for immediate purchase, white not being my first choice as I really wanted red tbh in the same way you don't buy a white ferrari !! But it meant I did not have to wait, so my order was white dvt - full termi - touring packing - fogs £18420'ish outright purchase "cash is king" Maybe Not !!
So I made the appointment to visit today and be there for 10:30am, arrived on time looked over the bike and the fella from clothing came over to talk as Sergio was with a bod, i introduced myself to the sales bod and he said he will inform Serg, I was there 1.5hrs and felt totally blanked not a fooking bean so i stuck £18500k back in my pocket and did one.

So a couple of questions .
1-The White bike in question the seat/plastics were twisted, is this norm ! tbh it looked pretty bad with uneven gaps, ok I remember the times when parts would fall off my treble9's but the panels fitted well.
2-The left hand guard touched the tank plastics and had marked, I note you can alter the angle but in doing so means the lever angle is alterered also, thus going skywards, the right hand guard was perfect and both levers sat at the same position .
3-is there any deals to be had for an outright cash purchase.
4-can you recommend a good dealer that doesn't ignore you for 1.5hrs.

    Many Thx
    D

  2. I got my white one (best colour) from On Yer Bike, good to deal with and good customer service at all times in my experience.
    1. My seat fit is crap
    2. It shouldn't touch
    3. Possibly but they all want you to use finance/Trioptions more in it fot them
    4. See above

  3. There is another white one on ebay - but ring around you may find a red one.

Try Hyside - small dealership - but seems to have lots stock/in process.

Had my Red Multi S from them a month or so ago - 3 weeks after order.

Tried my local dealer yesterday for A Red Icon Scrambler - just sold out - next delivery - September (winter toy)

He called his Ducati supplier - none available before September.

Called Hyside - just unpacking a delivery of bikes now he said - looking at a Red Icon now - I will put your name on it! - job done!

    Ask for Andy!

  4. Hi welcome. There is no excuse for bad service, so annoying. My local dealer has a white s in stock but I'm guessing Carlisle is a bit far for you to travel. All the best with your search.

  5. 1. Many people have complained about the gaps between the tank and side fairing bits. Mines are not even, but not nearly as bad as the ones on your pic. I am sure somewhere on the forum(s) there was a customer saying that Ducati have a factory note to "adjust" the bodywork if the gaps are exceeding xmm(sry I cannot remember the spec). Comments also exist about the Beak not being straight, mine isn't but again not excessive.
    2. Controls are usually pinned to set the angle the same on all for production, or rather I'd assumed that? Maybe the bike in pic, has the tank sitting too high, on the LH side the gap tank to side fairing looks big. Either way, I'm sure you could ensure these problems were resolved as part of any agreement to buy the bike.
    3. I paid the full cash price for mine, but I was trading in, so bargaining was, on the face of it, all to do with the trade-in. Cash in hand, probably doesn't mean much to the dealer, as finance gains them some better margins, but you can shop around, and move quickly.
    4. Your experience at Ducati Manchester was very disappointing, did you make your feelings known at the shop? If I had an appointment, I'd have been pi##ed off too. Seems like it's very much a sellers market at Ducati UK these days.

  6. Thx for your comments guys, I have had an email from Chris booth@ Ducati Manchester explaining the situation with being under staffed, shame really, It was a waisted trip of 150 miles for myself, I'm sure there a good dealer there punters whom I was chatting to seemed to think so.

Strangely Scaraman, cash ain't anything to be recognised with any more ! The last several yrs buying new bikes i have always been able to haggle 4-5% off retail price for a straight purchase even on new models and 10% off parts. So I cannot understand, they'll give you more then book price for your trade in but turn there nose up at a cash purchase, I didn't even want a demo or neither do I need to ask wifey permission. Just a straight n simple purchase .

Hello and Welcome to the mad house

  8. Don't be ignored for 90 mins without punching someone :punch::punch::punch::punch::punch: Ducati Manchester are usually fab at customer service - you should have punched someone :D Everyone responds to an angry potential customer that punches them, the world has gone mad - punch, buy, sorted ;)

  11. I did get a friendly vibe of Sergio something that many dealers lack and it seems he's got passion for the brand I suppose being Italian helps unless it's just a put on and he's from sheffield like gino !

  13. Hyside were good (for me anyway!)! Andy will try and sort you out a good deal if he can! He explained to me though, that to input cash into a business account (for them anyway!) costs them money whereas electronic transfers don't. So i supose that's why cash isn't king for a lot of dealers now?! Good luck with the search! Oh, and welcome to the forum!

  14. Hi DaveyBob77, yeah sorry I should been more clear no dealer will take £18k in cash over the counter due to money laundering laws i think, if pull that amount out ya pocket they are required to ring the old bill, in this day n age within minutes you can transfer the money whilst sitting at the dealers having a cuppa.

  15. D4VE, if I was you I'd wait for a red one, if that's the colour you really want, otherwise you might have a downer on it.
£9,000.00 is the tipping point for money laundering alert apparently.
