Setting Up A Quickshifter...

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by comfysofa, Jul 25, 2015.

  1. As above.... This coukd be a long thread due to me possibly not soaking up information.... Anyway... As above ive initially fitted a hm quickshifter plus to my z1ooo....the only thing i liked about the s1oooR i test road earlier this year was the quickshifter... Any way.... Initally... How much fun is that.... Just got back in from an initial test ride.... Fucking fun or what!

Any way it feels fine, if anything it feels not as hard work as the beemer, but how do i know ive got it at optimum settings.... Anything i shoukd look or "feel" for...

  2. If it's difficult to change gears or you miss gears probably the shift time ms is to low, if you lurch when changing gears it's probably to high ms.
If it doesn't cut the engine, sensitivity is to low. If you set the sensitivity to high it can activate the engine cut part of the QS and give you running problems.
Roughly I think thats about it.

  3. Ah, right... Dont lurch but changing seems a little heavy.... Not as heavy as the beemer, so, would i increase the ms time....?

  4. I just guessed the setup.... And i know im not that lucky....

  5. Why do some qs's pop on the gear change? Always wondered that... Mine doesnt... Wish it did, sounds cool!

  6. Sensitivity around 50-60, MS around 60 is generally a good place to start. Some pop because they cut electronically (coils) others that don't, cut fuel (injectors).
You probably need to up sensitivity and increase ms, try 5 at a time on both (but do 1 at a time).

  7. Yeah... Just went out into the garage and moved it from 55 to 60...although i wont get to ride it now til probably wednesday.... Used up my "man cave" hours today...mine hooked into the tops of the plugs...

  8. Also, whats the difference.... I was set to get a translogic.... Mine was listed on their site, found a lad on ebay that was selling one (purely by chance) but, he had the hm for sale also but said of the 2 he preferred the hm, said it was smoother.... Went down jhs this morning to get a shift rod and he (jhs bloke) said the translogic was the better one.... Just wondered what you thought....

  9. I have had HM and HMSS, the HM SS is seamless shift and self calibrating, I've never had a translogic so can't comment. Jeremy McWilliams did ride my S1K with the HMSS on it and one of the things he commented on was the shift.
I now have an HM SS that I'm probably going to sell as I have a Blip Box Pro system fitted, this gives clutchless up and down shifts, amazing piece of kit. (I only ride on the track atm.).

  10. Ah.... Mine supports push and pull but ive only got it set for the upshift.... Can i do both? Jeremy mc dubya eh.... Mr big time! Doesnt the s1k come with an oem shifter?

  11. All HM support push/pull, you don't want to do both :)

  12. Yeah i read that.... But why? Told you i was all with the questions.... Quickshifters are new territory to me...

  13. Push/pull is to allow you to configure for race or road shift regardless of rearset set up. When pulling in the clutch to shift down a gear, with the throttle closed the last thing you would want to do was cut the engine as it may cut out altogether. QS's are designed to cut the engine for upshift only, not downshift.

  14. Ah. Right. Well, its just set for the upshift.... How long (or many) changes did you make to yours before you got it right?

  15. My HM was plug and play. It's still not great first to second (not sure if that's typical) it likes /needs to be right on the power to work best.
    You're right, they're fun, especially on track...:Woot:
My brother has a translogic one on his beamer and to be honest it's not good at all, very lurchy (prob not set right) also needed cutting into the loom, same as fitting to an 848/1098...Seems a bit backward to me. Also the rod that came with his kit was completely wrong and he had to make his own!

  16. I never quick shift from 1st to 2nd. My set up is ok but it feels harsh and my mechanical sympathy kicks in.

  17. I don't think the hm covers 1st to 2nd....as the distance is longer the hm can only deal with one setting across the board hence 2nd upward....not sure why he would replace the oem shifter on a s1rr though...?
