1200 DVT 400 Miles In On The New Dvt - Plus Mods

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by DHMoto, Jul 27, 2015.

  1. Have now done just over 400 miles on the new bike.....loving it but thought I'd share my experience so far.
The ergonomics, handling and power deliver are almost beyond reproach. I am looking forward to opening the bike up properly once fully run in. Even sticking to the 6k rev limit the bike is fun although the quick action (1/4 turn !) throttle has meant that I have probably been closer to WOT on occasions than I would have liked.

The oil level has dropped to half way between the Max & Min marks - have read elsewhere on the forum that this will settle down as the bike runs in.

The screen in pretty good for a stock item --- MUCH better than the OEM item I had on my last bike (Triumph Tiger 1050 Sport). I was considering the MRA Vario Screen but ended up fitting the Xcreen spoiler taken from the Tiger screen on the standard Multistrada screen . The result is pretty good and I'm happy with it despite the fact that I had reservations about the colour mismatch...I reckon it actually looks OK and the Xcreen blade is larger and more adjustable than the item fitted to the bespoke Multistrada MRA Vario. The Xcreen blade is available in clear as well as smoke.

I have now fitted a PDM60 power distribution module (located on top of rear shock protector under riders seat) , Zumo 660 on Navihalter mount, Scottoiler E System (currently on singe sided injector but have ordered Shapeways adapter to fit twin injector),
Under passenger seat I have fitted Autocom Active 7 Smart with BTM02 Bluetooth module, Inforad GPS speed camera locator and PMR radio (Baofeng UV-B5) with custom PTT switch on LH bar and remote mounted antenna behind rear number plate which I have sprayed black.

I removed the large USB socket from under the seat as I'll never use it, and utilised the large rubber grommeted hole to pass all the wiring through. I then used the USB power feed to trigger the "ignition live" feed to the PDM 60

As I don't carry pillion passengers very often I have removed both rear footrest hangers complete with the pannier fixings - It's easier to remove the whole assembly than just the pannier brackets when they're not being used and gives the back end a cleaner look.

I have also tried both the Crystalusion liquid screen protector and the 3m Visquiti protection film.
Don't bother with the liquid stuff....the film is a much better product.

I have fitted a full Ventureshield kit from the link on the forum - great product and the most comprehensive kit I have had for any bike.

Now for the minor niggles -

    1) am missing the self cancelling indicators that were fitted on the Triumph - can't complain as I knew they weren't fitted when I bought the Multi, but, with a bike with so much technology how hard would it have been.
    2) same goes for the rear indicators - why are they old fashioned bulbs rather than LED ?
    3) I have the Trip number 1 reset problem which not only occurs every time the bike is turned off, but ALSO each time the power mode is altered on the fly. I have told the dealer who says a remap might cure it - I'm not holding my breath.
    4) I hate the evaporative canister arrangement - If I can be sure it wont invalidate the warranty, It'll be going in the bin.
    5) Heated grips are pretty pathetic - the demo bike was the same - are they all like it ??

Overall I reckon the bike is awesome. I can live with the minor foibles and its a much more engaging ride than any of the other 2015 breed I have ridden.

I'm off to Scotland in September so we'll see how it fares :upyeah:

  3. It still is... And a pleasure to do big miles on now with my mates.... remember those?

  4. I have the earlier non DVT and my heated grips are fantastic, it has to be a really cold day for me to have them on the highest setting, and even then I can't leave them on max for long..?

I would get the dealer to take a look.....

  5. I live in Australia. We have no option but to do big miles/kilometres. We don't need GCHQ communications.

I was having a dig at you about all the electronic accoutrements you have plumbed in ;-)

You don't need half that palaver mate.

  6. Thanks for that.. I'll get them to check the at first service.. There's a reference in the user manual about them running on low under 2k revs to conserve power, but I was running way over that when I tried them out the other day

  7. I don't need half that palaver... [emoji23].. You do realise that the Multistrada has built in Bluetooth infotainment, inertial control module, abs, Dtc, DSS DWC, and more computing power than the Apollo space shots.

Perhaps you should have a quiet word with Ducati for fitting all this rubbish.

Me, we'll I've fitted comms and a Sat Nav... Big deal... I was just trying to give like minded souls a leg up with fitting....

Each to there own, but I reckon the Multistrada forum is no place for technophobes [emoji106]

  8. Omg. That screen on the left handlebars. Why why why. Lol

  9. Heated grips: Mine are extremely toasty on my standard DVT. Almost too hot in lowest setting.

  10. Maybe he's sucking all the power with the electrical accoutrements lol

  11. I have mine on max and they are not as hot as my VFR on low

That is now - will need proper gloves in winter!

  12. My14 grips need welders gloves on max

  13. Same here on my 13

  14. My bmw f800 had great heated grips, sadly my 2015 standard mts ones are not as good.

  15. On my 2011 MTS the heated grips are hot enough on min, too hot on mid, and searing hot on max - suitable for an extended tour of Northern Sweden in January. On my 2015 DVT the grips are mildly warm on min, toasty but usable on mid, and hot but still just bearable on max. I like to have foam grips sleeved over the standard ones, which softens the effect slightly.

  16. Have you fitted a winch to it as well :) sorry, had to say it.
Edit: Note, I'm not being facetious, I'm referring to the attached picture.

  17. That sounds like a good plan - one to think about - a Landrover / Ducati Hybrid...Probably better on the scrambler though??

  18. Your DVT does have self cancelling indicators! But they only work at speeds of less than 50kph (30 mph). Which means if you are on an unrestricted bit of road or just riding like a loon at 70mph or above they don't self cancel. Bloody stupid Italian idea that one! Completely pointless

  19. I'll try them out... Can't say that I've noticed while riding the bike. If they work under a certain speed it should be possible to tweak the ecu to make them work at higher speeds I should imagine... But beyond me though[emoji85]

  20. Indicators are like that so that they don't self cancel too early on motorways. Just remember to press the button lads it's the one on the left hand side, u just move your thumb an inch to the right. Clever people can do it while pulling the clutch in. Lol. Also wats the thing attached to your number plate?
