Interested to know how long members on this forum have owned their SS - Why made you first buy it? How does your bike make you feel today? How long have you owned it? Do you plan on changing? What changes would you make if any?
I miss mine and wish I could have her back I bought her after being a pillion on the 900 Loved the retro square headlight and there was just something about simplicity of the SS I fell in love with it straight away I was ecstatic when I found out I could buy a 600 as I thought it only came as a 900 Had her 3 years would not have changed her and she was untouched I still feel excited about the SS whenever I see one
Owned my ie naked since 03. Its uncomfortable, vibrates and is a pig round town especially on neutral throttle. Still love it though.
Bought my 04 900ssie in 2006 after PX of my mint GSXR K4 600. Got rid relunctantly of the 600 because it made my hands go numb after 100 miles, bought the ss I'd never had a twin and it was totally different. The ducati still has it's flaws though and have always missed the outright speed and decent headlights of the suzuki. Wouldn't get rid of the Ducati now as it still brings a smile to my face every time it's fired up, even after 9yrs ownership
bought mine after a 9 year layoff from bikes and as an insentive to get moving after an op on my knee had it 3 years I think nearly thought about getting rid frequently when had running problems but still love it thought about changing recently for a standard 900 for the pillion seat as the other half is missing riding but not sure I might retro mod the bike back to having pillion pegs and the like also maybe a 900 engine but not sure
Got my first one in 1994, private sale, 1993 model, gold frame, black wheels, red mirrors - the best looking combination, paid £6500.00!!! Bought on the recommendation of a mate who had gone through 30 bikes by the time he was 25 and rated it as one of the best handling bikes he had ridden. Got my 2nd one in July 1995, to replace the first one that was written off in a collision on the Isle of Man in June 95, a 1994 model, with gold wheels, 5000 miles on the clock, private sale again, and about the same price. (insurance gave me more than I had paid for the first one!!) Swapped the black wheels and braided brake lines off the damaged 1993 one which I sold to a lad who raced and won a club championship on it. I heard it was back on the road a few years ago, where is K862 BOA now? Still got the second one, 65,000 on the clock now, still enjoy a relaxing but deceptively quick ride on it. Mods include cut-away airbox top, Pipercross / K&N filter, dynojet kit, different exhaust cans and Ohlins rear shock off the later injection model to raise the rear and quicken the steering a bit. No plans to get rid of it.
Bought my SL in December 2005. Modified it over the years, to go and handle better, to the point where I'm completely happy with it. Still brings a smile to my face every time I go out on it. Love it, love it, love it.
bought mine in 2011 after everything from super dream to zzr1100 gsxr750 Daytona 955i .love the ss won't change again.
Like V twins, and my 93 carby one just looks right, still gets interest when parked up. It's cracking to ride on any road with a decent surface, popped a 100miles on it yesterday just cruising along, lovely.... 9 years and counting. Not selling, it's a keeper, apart from that my son says it's his inheritance....I wouldn't be forgiven. Already done a fair bit, next step is definitely improve the front forks and then possibly FCR's and Hi-Comps.. Mike
Love mine, although its actually an SL Bag o nails when i got it and have worked bloody hard to get her to where she is today. Wouldnt swap her for the world, well maybe a 888 SP4 54000 miles, Gets loads of attention, people dont believe shes 23 years old, handles great sounds awsome and really comfy, who needs modern when you got this kind of soul
ck_uk asked: Why made you first buy it? How does your bike make you feel today? How long have you owned it? Do you plan on changing? What changes would you make if any? I bought my 750Sport ie because I wanted a Ducati, I wanted a gentle re-introduction to bikes after six years off the road and because the bike had had few miles / a good price tag. The bike goes from making me delighted to making me furious. At the moment, I am furious with it. I have owned it twelve years. I once test-rode an SV650 as I was thinking of part-ex'ing my 750. No, I have no plans of getting rid. Changes to the bike? At the moment, getting the little mutti-ficker to run right.
I bought my 900ie in 2009 to run along side my mk3 Superlight, which was comfortable to ride but the carbs would ice up and the bodywork didn't like wind turbulence, also more ground clearance would have been nice. These niggles were addressed with the injected model but a serious RTC in 2012 on my R1 meant I was unable to ride anything for 2 years. The 900ie is so uncomfortable for me to ride now.I have tried to improve things by lowering the seat height and fitting different clip-ons for a more upright riding position. It still gives me neck pain after 30miles but that exhaust sound is so intoxicating.
I bought my first carby 900 in 1991, have had 2 injected 900s since and now have a fabulous yellow Superlight. For me they have the right combination of power and weight allied to lovely handling and fabulous character. I absolutely love them. I`m one of the few who prefers the injected bikes. They certainly go a little better and the handling and ride is better too but I just find them less comfortable than the carb models . Ideally I`d like a 1000ss and someone magically make it comfortable enough to ride all day, I`d sell the superlight for that and probably live happily ever after !
My SSie naked is really uncomfortable, I have a corbin seat thats probably worse than the original and 3 times the weight as well. I think the problem is the seat slants forward putting more strain on wrists/forearms. I've converted my top yoke with risers and have drag bars fitted which are too straight so that doesn't help either....looks good tho....style before function.
I rode the SSIE it was yellow :Wideyed: It was smooth and quick but.... The carby just has something about it it rattles and judders and feels comfy and chatters to you I always felt at home getting back on the carby after riding anything else
My SSIEs were both yellow, try taking the trumpets out of the airbox and then they really talk to you. Not loud like a termi for everyone to hear, just nice air induction noise for the rider only.
I didn't find the seat a problem, it was the bars more than anything and there didn't seem much rom to raise them without fouling the fairing. Do you have a problem with that or do the straight bars solve it ?
