So Guys, I am back on the case for an 1198 SP - it's a 04.2011 with only 2,500Km, in Black. The Purchase will be from a Private Seller. So it comes with No Warranty. (or 1198 SP in Red with 23,000Km from a Duc Dealer with 12 months Warranty...) I test rode the Black SP yesterday for 30 minutes and it all seemed fine. Having only 2'500km on Black SP will the Gearbox be pretty safe? I'm not blessed with big cash reserves for huge repair bills :-( Is this a Crazy Purchase - due to the expereinces regarding the Gearbox and DQS ? I just need a few pointers / head levelling comments before I pull the trigger or 'back out of the Deal'... and buy a New Aprilia RSV4 1100 RR ? Thanks in advance - Any feedback is appreciated. Ben Happy Riding!
Cheers - After having slept on it - I think I will investigate the Tuono 1100 Factory as a new option. I can wait until the spring as well... and may be then there are a few more around, ex demo's etc... In the meantime I need to find a test ride bike
Go for the SP and just take off the QS. If it rode well with no clunkiness why should it be any different to any other 1198
1198SP is a great bike. But given the current price differential, I'd spend a bit more and get the R.
So Guys, I've actually ducked out of the Duc purchase on all 1198's. I'm looking at other options which are not from the Ducati family. As I get older, I'm getting more paraniod... I just can't risk any serious issues due to cash flow - self employment is unpredictable - and today I have to have the cars breaks Pads changed not under warranty... priceless. So Mod - please close this thread. Thanks Ben
Did you have a bad experience with an 1198sp Willy*, as every thread with those four numbers in seems to attract you like a magpie? Time to let it go now i think. *no need to elaborate, i have got the picture now.
Go buy and s1000rr. Oh hold on, they eat gearboxes Go buy a zx10r. Oh hold on the rat gearboxes. Go buy a fireplace. Boring in looks and ride and may not eat it's gearbox. Then again, it may munch on a few clutches and stators. R1 the way to go. I think. Or do they sometimes break too?
I fell for the negative shite that people posted on here, so I got rid. And ..... I still have a carbon exhaust cover, Connstand, screen, unused Lazer wheel nut removers, two spare relays, Gilles rear sets, chinky levers. Maybe I should get another ?
Buy the 1198SP, or an R as suggested. SP is slightly cheaper to buy, but same to maintain and is more or less the same. (R has slightly different internals and a sand-cast block, +10hp). My SP has been used almost exclusively on tracks at temperatures from 35C - 45C for it's 3500kms and is faultless and only issue with the gearbox is my lazy left foot. Great bikes - proper Ducati's!!
