Just put on a carbon/titanium aftermarket gearshift rod. Has anybody had any issues with doing this? I installed today and found the gear change so harsh and cluncky. 1st gear is fine, but moving up, it seems so harsh...Im guessing the OEM gear shift rod has some kind of mechanical-damping design in it by looking at its design, as it is much smoother. So I dont think there is any problem with aftermarket, but think it vibrates/shocks through the rod to the pedal.
I don't think there's any form of damper in the standard shift rod, but since titanium and carbon are both very rigid / stiff materials it's not surprising if it feels different? Maybe there was also more slack in the joints previously and now you've tightened everything up...?
I think you are right there as the new shift rod is very rigid...anyway it works, which is the main thing!
Yes it was from podium. Quality is good, but I would say it needed to be slightly shorter as I had to move the gear change arm a few teeth. Looks ok, but can't really see it as its black. I'm just wondering why Ducati designed the OEM the way they did and not a straight rod design and I reckon it's to reduce the clunkyness when changing, so although there is no actual damper on the original I think the design alone of it softened gear change.
you've just answered your own question. If you needed to move the pivot point a few teeth around the spline you have the wrong rod. Being carbon or titanium will have eff all effect on the operation. It being the wrong. Length will . That's why you gear shift operation has changed - wrong connection rod.
I moved my rearsets up one and the rod did fit, so now I can change the pivot point back 2 teeth to its original position. But like you say the rod should fit anyhow...that's in both rearset positions. Can't complain as everything I have ever bought of ebay has been wrong! Can't be bothered to send it back. So would I recommend. No.
If its not the same length (which is should be) it should be sent back. It's not a performance aid, more of a gearbox breaking aid piece of ****.
Agree...I think they just sent the wromg size, it should be 10mm shorter to give some adjustment...comparing it to the OEM. Can't be bothered to re-pack, ask for postage back along with refund and go through PayPal. Lesson learnt.
