Monster S4r Clutch Problem Or Not

  1. Hi!
A new Ducati owner had asked me to try his 2006 S4R, because he think the clutch is bad. I know, it is dry clutch, but it works differently than my 999, and brothers M900ie. Clutch plates should be good, because it is not problem to shift the gears, even if you are not moving. But if you start, between 0-5kmh it is really difficult to start normally. Chirring, stuttering, clattering, but after that works good. I shoot 2 photos, maybe you can help me. Pressure plate looks different than mine, maybe it is slipper clutch or something aftermarket? Plates and basket looks OK, but we did not removed them.

  2. Hi, I bought a 2005 S4R in September last year. My clutch was noisy and made like a groaning noise sometimes when pulling away or at very low speeds. I stripped the clutch over winter and found the friction plates were worn and the basket was notched. I replaced the basket and friction plates (and the pressure plate as I was fitting an open cover). Mine does not groan anymore but still clatters at low speed, much more than the one on my 900ss ever did. I think you definitely need to take out the plates and check the basket.

  3. Thanx Sparch, we will check it!
