Thanks for the link. I'd like a new RX7 but I'm not too struck on the designs other than the Crutchlow rep and I can't justify £700 right now. Might wait till Xmas to see what offers the shops have.
I know what you mean. I don't like many of the modern styles that you get these days. It has taken me ages to find something that I like almost as much as the old discontinued Rutter design that I have on my lids at the moment (I have three of them - I have just bought them up whenever I saw them over the last few years).
Yeah I like my arai (think its the original rx7) Reynolds rep. Nothing wrong with it other than its five years old and really due a change because of that. EDIT; it's an Astro R
Refitted foot pegs holders, brake/shifter levers after they been powder coated on black. They look much beter than silver...
Thats a good price for a top spec lid. It doesnt matter how good a helmet is thou, £700 is still £700
If you've stored it out of the sun in a reasonably cool place, looked after it, not done a zillion miles in it, I very much doubt it needs changing after 5 years. They don't degrade that fast if you look after them. Now, if you just fancy a new one for a quick happiness burst and you can afford it, well, why not? But it's still a 700 quid happiness burst.
Yes it's stored in a cool (not cold) dark garage, and though its not done zillions of miles it will have done 20k'ish. I just tend to change them after a few years that's all. Though I'm struggling with paying £700 for a new one.
Yes - £700 is a heck of a lot of money for a lid - especially when there are always discounts to be had. The difficulty is finding a discounted one in colours that you like.
Once the weather gets a bit better will get some pics up of my initial buying spree now its all fitted, lovin the asv f3 levers, and did come across the problem with the gilles rearsets rubbing the plastics a bit but a 5mm nylon spacer on the bottom fairing fixed that
I think £700 for a lid is well out of order personally. I have just paid about £200 for some Alpinestars Goretex SMX boots. These are complicated things, with Goretex membranes, buckles, drawstring, zips and various layers. I fail to see what is so magic about a pixie hat that it has to cost 3 and a half times the price. Did someone say "fat profit margin"? As I said before, I can't even see where all the R&D has gone. What's better about Arai helmets now than the ones 10 or even 20 years ago? I suspect we are paying for a name and a brand image that is dating.
A lot of the premium pricing is down to marketing, I know that. Most people seem to think that "if it costs the most then it must be the best". I don't necessarily buy that. However so far I've found that I seem to have an Arai shaped, premium priced head
I seem to have an Arai Quantum shaped head. Not an Arai RX GP7 thing, or whatever my pixie hat is called.
RX7 GP is a great helmet :smile: Know what you mean about designs, I had two Crafar Quantum F's before Arai released another design i liked. The Edwards RX7 Corsair which i used for 5 years then picked up a Hayden RX7-GP last year
