My Ducati multistrada 1000ds went to start it... in neutral starts fine i select first gear with the clutch in and it jumps forwards and stalls anyone know whats wrong..
Clutch dragging? Either needs bleeding or if bike has been standing a few weeks the plates might have stuck together. Put bike in gear with motor and ign off and rock back and forth with clutch in to free it off. If that doesnt work strip clutch to seperate plates.
I wouldnt have a clue how to strip it down.. very new to motorcycles.. is that expensive job for a garage to do?
Sorry i can ride bikes but when it comes to fixing it i dont have a clue.. how do i fix it if its this?
Overnight... I had a problem where someone removed my oil cap causing oil to come out when i was riding.. i stopped had it recovered.. cleaned it all and got new cap and oil etc.. rode it fine to the train station.. so it only been left at the station for 10 hours.. when i returned it would start. Get on it select first gear as soon as i did this it jumps forward and stalls..

Sounds like the hydrolics need bleeding, or master cylinder or slave cylinder have failed. First though check there is fluid in reservior(on master cyl), should be about half full. Bleeding clutch is fairly easy to do but be careful not to get fluid on paint. Google bleed ducati clutch, there should be video on there somewhere.
Thanks not knowing alot about bikes i think i will get my local garage to do it. Hopefully won't be expensive job ?
Try do it yourself, fairly straightforward. Does the bike roll back and forward in gear with clutch in.
Was part way through posting when we had a power cut. First thoughts are clutch switch (which is on the clutch lever assembly) and sticking clutch plates.
Could also be clutch slave cylinder seal failed which is quite a common Ducati problem. Not that this'll help if you're not mechanically minded. A good garage could have all this checked in an hour. And unless it needs any parts should fix it in that time too before it goes back together.
