Ducati Assistance - Poor Service

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by jj996, Aug 14, 2015.

  1. I have 1199r (2014) which along with numerous problems has the swing arm rub problem. I have been advised to go back to the supplying dealer due to the amount of problems and contacted ducati assistance to recover the bike ( not safe to ride whilst chain is rubbing) the contract is with AA. They turned up in the pouring rain with a flat bed car transporter .
I refused to let my bike which only gets ridden in dry weather do the 200 mile journey on the back of an uncovered truck.
AA rang me back from Lyon, and advised me that they don't have any vehicle which is covered or suitable for a motorcycle and advised me to organise my own transport and also advised it would be at my own cost.
Am I being anal for not letting a concours condition 1199 R with 2000 miles on the back of an uncovered truck in the pouring rain??

  2. What happens if you are away from home, and it starts to rain-what do you do then?

  4. Sorry, but yes!!

  5. SOS motorcycle recovery have covered trucks. That's who my recovery use... Or cable ties and a parasol.

I'd have expected the dealer to do a thorough clean and let it go on the transporter though.

  6. Yes. They have offered to transport your bike free of charge. You have turned down the offer. It's your choice to transport it by some other means, at your own expense. Fine, if that's what you want to do, that's your privilege although most folk would think you're daft. But describing this as "poor service" is ludicrous.

  8. If I get caught in the rain then so be it, but after spending that sort of money why can't it be covered for a journey to dealership.

  9. To be fair, in defence of the dealership which is Ducati Aylesbury who have superb service and a guy that does really get bikes properly clean [emoji108]

  10. Simply put, if Ducati insisted on recovered recovery you would have to add £500 to the price of every bike to cover the additional costs.

Truth is, you cant out a cover on as after a few ises they get grip and dirt on the inside. Means claims for damage. SOS may use covered vans but try and get them to repair anything at the roadside..again 100% recovery costs a load more

  11. Look at the positive sides. At least it's 200 miles on a truck rather than on your bikes mileage.

Anyway, don't worry about keeping a 1199R pristine, that's what 749R's are for..

  13. Ok thanks all for replies. Guess I expect too much [emoji45]

  14. Don't worry about it, my other half is the same :(

  15. I dont think you are... Its not the fact its uncovered to me, its more that any bike insurance or road side assistance company that is offering a service for motor bikes should have vehicles fit for purpose as in the correct ramps and tie downs (and perhaps a cover) to ensure safe loading and transport of ya scoot. I waited 4 hrs once on the m5 for green flag to recover my bike only for a tow truck to turn up and the driver suggest we put a rope round the forks and i sit on it whilst he tows it 20 odd miles to a closed bike shop at 9 on a sunday night!

  16. A flat bed with secure tie down is fit for purpose

  18. My uncle had to get his 1098 recovered in Italy. The guy was ratcheting it down so tight the forks bottomed out and when we started shouting, he just smiled and said the only English he knew... "Eees Better [emoji106]".
Oh how we laughed. Became the catchphrase of the trip.

    Just another thought. Tarpaulin!

  19. And a large bill to replace all the plastics..,

  20. Ok, silk cloth topped with tarp [emoji106] or just let it get wet and not be a tart [emoji23]
