Carbon Huggers

  1. Am I right in assuming that if you buy a carbon hugger for a carby SS it will fit the early SSIE but not ones after about 2002?

  2. the 4 mounting holes are the same, only difference between standard items is the ie hugger has a longer spigot for the chainguard screw, can't speak for the carbon item.

  3. You are referring to which of the three bikes? I bought a carby hugger for my alloy swing arm 2002 900 SSIE and it is totally different. it won't fit.

  4. carby and early ie huggers a nearly the same
if you have a steel swingarm
    I believe

  5. Cheers, Johnboy. Separate issue a bit but I am sure our carby model has an alloy swingarm also. Does this mean that the early SSIE cheaped out on components and basically used the original carby design but made them in steel. Then they redesigned it using alloy half way through the SSIE's life? Or could you also get an early SSIE with alloy too? Or was it the smaller-engined swingarms that all had steel?

  6. Does your swing arm look like this? If not will the hugger fit this swingarm and if so how much do you want for it? This is a 1999 900ss IE model. I have noticed later models do have a simpler shaft and chain tension assembly with a star shaped clamp to the arm member. swingarm.jpg

  8. Yes mine is the same as the first pic by john boy, much thicker and more rounded.

I am not sure if it will fit yours ducatijones but I think it will. Is yours alloy or steel? It looks alloy and that confuses me more as it means the Ssie came with 3 swingarms. I thought it was just two.

It is plain weave with matt lacquer by the way.

  9. Definitely alloy. Confusing or what. Its true what they say about Ducati's, bikes built with whatever is available that day.

  10. 1992 alloy swingarm carby ss hugger will fit early 1999 injected alloy swingarm, your later rounded item is a completely different beast which appeared when Ducati introduced the 1000ss with ohlins shock as an OE item, my apologies for the confusion.

  11. Cheers, so in summary there is interchangeability regarding huggers with all the swingarm types regardless of whether the bike is carby or IE supersport, unless it has a swingarm like mine, which were only available from about 2002 on? And I bet no one makes a carbon hugger for my swingarm, right?
