1200 Ducati Used Warranties Not Available???

  1. Guys,
Need some advice here, picking up my new (to me) MTS 1200s, year is 2011 and the dealer has informed me that Ducati can't do a 12 month warranty on any used bikes at the moment (due to legal issues with the previous broker????) so the best is a 3 month warranty - does this sound like BS?
The bike itself is very honest, 19,000 miles, service history confirmed - had a print out from the service guy at the dealer to make sure, all service done, all recalls done apart from a throttle cable/body which is being done at the same time as the minor service.
Has anyone else heard of this issue, or is it unique to MTS 1200S of the 2011 vintage?
Just can't believe in this day and age a major manufacturer or dealer not offering anything more than 3 months warranty?
    Yours confused,
    Neil.

  2. Can't see Ducati giving you a warranty on a 4yr old bike myself, so I would have thought it would be a dealer offered warranty, and their only prepared to offer you a 3mth one.

  3. OK, I understand that but the dealer was implying that normally they would but due to current 'legal wrangles' ongoing at the moment it isn't possible????

So my point was they normally do offer 12 months but are hampered by whats happening in Italy?

Just checked Ducati Glasgow website and they are offering this at the moment:

Used Ducati Motorcycle Warranty - "Ever Red"
Every used Ducati supplied by us and up to 8 years old is covered by an 'Ever Red' 12 month Ducati Factory Recommended warranty. In essence this warranty is very similar to that of a new Ducati (see above)

    • 1 Year, unlimited mileage warranty covering all parts and labour**
    • 1 Year, AA Assistance cover supplied in conjunction with
Ducati Assistance which includes Roadside Assistance, Home Start, European Cover and Accident Management**
** Warranty period begins at date of invoice. Warranty and Ducati Assistance / AA Cover are subject to specific conditions.

    Just slightly confused!

  4. The key word in there is "Recommended".

  5. Sorry mate don't understand what you are implying?
I'm purchasing the bike from an official dealer, I assume one 'recommended' through Ducati UK?

  6. The point is that it sounds like it isn't a Ducati warranty, just one recommended by Ducati.

  7. Absolute BS. A bike of that year and the warranty won't have anything to do with Ducati. It's provided by the dealer or through a 3rd party that they put all their warranties through (as above with ever red). I got 12 months on my 2010 when I purchased it in March. Had a full engine rebuild since then so very glad I had it. Sounds like they just don't want to give a multi a long warranty.

  8. Ducati haven't put their manufacturer one back in place since it was withdrawn some time ago

  9. The extended warranty has been cancelled, anyone with a bike less than two years old will be in for a shock

  10. If my '10 is anything to go by, they'd be losing money hand over fist if they stood by the product. I'm currently pursuing Ducati under SOGA as being materially unfit for purpose - watch this space.

  11. Ooh, interesting techno. My 2010 engine went about 2 weeks after I got the bike back in March. I'd have actually cried if I'd had to pay for it but it was under the dealer for that. I'm noticing a fair amount that's wrong but most of it I can sort myself. Rear light is looking like it wants to fall out at the mo so that's my next job. Love the bike but it is worrisome.

  12. As above, if I was a dealer either Ducati or just selling a Duke there's no way I'd pay for a one year warranty on an early Mutley, you only have to look on here to see the problems 'some' of them have had.

  13. Rear light's the easy one: I unbolted it, and sandwiched large rubber grommets under the bolts - firmed it up nicely. RH fork seal blew on the way back from Croft today - one more thing to add to the list.

  14. My understanding of the SoGA is that it is the dealer that is responsible and not Ducati.

This whole area is a bit of a nightmare, which is why I think there is a reluctance to go there, one way or another the costs will be passed on to the consumer.

  15. Mine already has the rubber. I mean the red light has dropped. From what I've read on here it's 2 plastic clips that snap. I'll sugru it back in place but at the moment, getting tyres done is priority as its not going anywhere like this...

  16. If it's on finance its the finance company not the dealer that's who your agreement is with

    • Agree Agree x 1
  17. I find it surprising too, considering that on my 2012 I bought last year I got a warranty as part of the "deal".
Just get a third party warranty, or go to a different dealer if they can't be bothered to help - its usually a good indicator of how crap a dealer is going to be, if they can't be arsed to put in the effort to sell a bike.
