Small oil leak which I have found to be coming from behind the clutch slave cylinder, seems to drip down the inside of the front sprocket cover, down the casing then drip on the inside of the lower fairing. Does this mean I need to replace the entire part or are there renewable parts within the slave ? never touched one before so a little hesitant to start taking apart. If a new one is needed can you recommend an affordable replacement ? prices seem to be all over the place.
Is it oil or hydraulic fluid ? If it's oil and the 900 has a clutch rod that runs through the gearbox like the 748/916/996, it's most likely the 2 o ring seals on the rod. If it's hydraulic fluid, get a replacement slave cylinder. Andy
Have you established whether clutch fluid seeping out of the slave or is it possibly gearbox oil seeping past the push-rod seal? This may of course be just crazy-talk but I thought I'd ask If it is the slave, I wouldn't mess around, I'd get a nice new one from someone like Antonye here on the Forum. Edit: I'm so slow
Pretty sure it's oil. Cleaned it all up over the weekend and no drips after for a day or 2. Started it up today and used the clutch a few times and it's dripping again ?
All options are covered above, it's very common for clutch slave to leak particularly if bike has been standing, has Master cylinder level gone down?
had a similar leak on my 750 turned out some the side casing bolts had come slightly loose and was allowing an oil leak just above the pushrod tightened up bolts to see if cured it and so far it has
Done that and some were slightly lose and one just goes round and round, another little job !!pretty sure its the cylinder, just need to identify which exact part. Not sure about the MC level but is currently on minimum so presume have lost some fluid also. Ahhhhh the joys !!
The reason for stripped crankcase bolts/screws is often that somebody has used one slightly too short in the past. For a temporary fix to put your mind at rest you could try using a longer bolt to see if there is any unused thread deeper in crankcase but nip up carefully obviously. Serious, continuous oil leaks only tend to come from around the lower half of the crankcase Joints as the top half only gets oil splash if at all.
You need to be more liberal with the ThreeBond............pretty good as a gentle Loctite substitute.
I had two M6 threads fail on a Guzzi sump.........not enough thread left to get a bite with a longer bolt.......... ..........a 1/4" plug tap cured the problem, can't recall which thread, but I found stainless allen bolts to match.
have not had the casing off al so not my doing engine is as bought then fitted it worked so left alone thought of removing to reseal but nipping up the bolts seemed to do the trick so far so till it needs further attention its sorted honest
Tricolore, You can get new seals, got them a while ago but have not changed them yet. Mine had gone and all the paint on the back end of the stator cover has gone. There does not seem too much to the internals everything just pulls out but you will obviously have to bleed it when its back together. Look in parts manual or on Stein-Dinse web site for what it looks like. Cheers Gaz
replaced the seals in a spare slave cylinder got seals from ducati cost about tree quid or something like really easy to do
