Hi all, as per my other post, I get a noise when pulling away in first. If I'm nice and gentle it's fine and no issues accelerating hard once moving in any gear. Google leads me to think it could just be dirty plates. From what I read it's not that bad. Take off clutch cover, remove springs and plates, clean, reassemble and put on new liquid gasket seal. Does that all sound correct? I'll need to order a torque wrench and liquid gasket before doing the actual job (I'll order them if you lot say it's easy). Does the slipper clutch complicate things? Nearest dealer is P&H, I have a 12 month 2nd hand warranty with them but figure they'll say that clutch plates are a consumable item and charge me for a whole new set (I've had the bike since March). If they do charge, it'll be sky high as per everything they seem to do, plus getting a service slot takes an age. Off to MotoGP Silverstone on it and skint from new tyres so doing it myself is preferable to forking out unless it could be something worse than cleaning the plates. I am competent enough to replace them (copier engineer so happy stripping things down and reassembling, just not done much work on bikes).
Do you need to clean the wet clutch plates?? I've wouldn't have thought that was necessary, but may be wrong. Yes, the dry ones are certainly prone to friction material build up and benefit from the occasional scrub, especially if its a slipper, but wet ones...Hmmm... It sounds like you just need a new pack. I put a slipper clutch in my old 848 Evo Corse Se. You don't need to drain the oil if you lean the bike a little further over on the stand, but its still a fag to get the casing off and clean away all the old sealant. Make sure your diagnoses is right before you set to work, or you're in a for a lot of swearing.
Bollocks. What do you think P&H will say to my warranty on that? Don't mind doing the job myself, would just resent forking out £300 odd on parts and tools.
How many miles has the bike got on it? Clutches are consumable items, so I'm pretty sure you will have to pay, but if its under warranty still just let them charge you for the parts and get them to do it.
Got it in March with 6k miles and I've done another 4.5k miles on it. It had to go in for a full engine rebuild under warranty a few weeks into my ownership.
Your kidding 10.5k out of a wet clutch. you should be getting more like 40k out of it. unless you constantly slip it while riding. are you sure it's the clutch and not something like the chain rubbing under load or something rattling like your stand or a bit of faring?
I was thinking more that sort of mileage. Unless the first owner was an oaf. I don't slip it when riding and I don't do traffic light GP's at every set of lights. It's a definite noise when pulling away in 1st but if I really slip the lever out slowly and don't gun it, it's fine. I thought I'd try one pull away with high revs and releasing the lever sharpish and it made me pull the clutch back in as it made a noise. Just rode it back from work without it happening once as I'm consciously going really easy on the clutch.
Maybe the Slave cylinder? There was an updated part as the old ones used to rotate and wear the seal leading to loss of clutch fluid.
I topped up my clutch fluid a few months ago as it went really low. Hasn't moved since but the noise is definitely new. Will get it into P&H after Silverstone weekend.
We'er in Becketts for the weekend although being somewhat older, got a hotel for Saturday night. Silverstone is a big place but you never know, just might run in to each other. Andy
Just checked the text from one of the guys... "weekend tickets includes roving grandstands Friday Saturday ,becketts stand 3 row g on Sunday and includes camping". See you at Beckets I suppose.
Just because you've got a slightly longer walk down to the front to reach the beer bus does not mean i'll be ferrying pints up to you . We definitely need Ducati Forum t-shirts, or the posher pit crew style shirts for the fashion conscience of us. @El Toro , Could charge a bit more than cost and give buyers a VIP/Donator style tag on their profile and aid hosting and development.
Spoil sport. Silverstone isn't as organised as the Spanish tracks which have guys wondering around with draft coolers on their backs but Carole keeps me organised. Andy
Anyone got a reckless teenage tear away they need to whip into shape with some fetching work? Add 50p a pint and he can earn and learn.
