1200 DVT Early Newbike Woes

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Bandit, Aug 21, 2015.

  1. Day 3 of Duc ownership. Awesome looking sounding and handling bike. Like my V2win Tuono on steroids.

But noticed leaking front brake fluid reservoir and a cracked pannier (Givi Ducati) lug.

talking to my local shop the Ducs are prone to leaky reservoirs (never had one on a Japanese /other Italian bike leak over the last 26 years! Although my 1990 ZZR600 did have badly fitted screws so used to soften the brakes by letting air in past a badly fitted diaphragm) and Ducati Glasgow say they've had snapped pannier lugs fixed under warranty.

Anymore characteristics of the brand....aside from my permanent grin?

  2. Congratz on your purchase, which model did you buy?

  3. Thanks GunZenBomZ.

1200 DVT touring. Ex demo. Elated....just hope I don't want to go back to a reliable Japanese bike lol

  4. What does "Ducs are prone to leaky reservoirs" mean? It's not nuclear science. It's just a damn container with an o-ring. It shouldn't leak. Period. And the panniers, they should have solved it by now. Unless the damage was already there and you just noticed it now.

It seems that they are still struggling with basic stuff. Hope it's just a bad container that got past the QC. Enjoy the bike.

  5. Prone to leaks? Sorry, utter tosh. I have owned Ducatis for the last 12 years and never, ever, had a leaking one. Monsters (3 incl 2 I raced), ST range, all 3 tyres of Multi (new DVT being 3), 916, 2 848s, 600 SS (raced)

The last multi was prone to darkening fluid and a clutch mc that needed bleeding at the reservoir end every 1500 mils or so, but never a leak

  6. Sorry I forgot your the worlds expert on leaky brake reservoirs, and sorry Bandit I lied their not prone to leaks it's just yours and mine m8.

  7. My clutch reservoir suddenly dropped really low and has now gone darker than North Korea from space. 2010 bike and now the clutch drags slightly if I pull away in 1st too hard. Started thinking it could be plates but only done 10,000 miles. Based on the sudden drop (I have topped it up) I'm now wondering on slave cylinder

  8. But no leaky res

  9. My clutch fluid did the same. Just replaced the fluid, bled it top and bottom and it cured it.
My front brake reservoir does weep from around the cap, but only occasionally. Resists all attempts to cure it. Bizarre!

  10. I recently changed the cap on my 2010 FB res, due to ridiculous amounts of corrosion (OE black painted alloy), I can only assume from very minor leaking? Put an Oberon anodised on. Also changed out the clutch slave cylinder a year or so back as the clutch action became graunchy and stiff, again Oberon. Transforms the clutch action completely, well recommended.

  11. I believe early Multistradas did have alloy brake reservoir caps. My 2012 model has the plastic cap. I've tried reseating the rubber bellows seal, tried tightening and slackening the screws to various degrees, tried reducing the level of fluid a bit but nothing provides a permanent fix. I ignore it now. If it gets any worse I may have to resort to one of those poncy sock things to soak up the leak.

  12. Good vibes for Oberon then. 2 year warranty or not I may change my clutch slave cylinder for piece of mind.

  13. Will the Oberon slave off the early bikes fit the Dvt !

  14. Thanks everyone - really good feedback. I feel I'm in good company

Its a new DVT bike with 1050 or so miles on it. I'm not shelling out for it TT. Unless you mean dealer/Ducati should?

That's how my clutch felt today Grumbler. Graunchy is a feckin good word my fellow Duc owner and not only describes the word but the noise lol :upyeah: Just back in from a spin with Mrs Bandit. She loves the bike!;)

  15. Oh how I missed forum banter lol. JCmental - just you n me then Bro (and a lot of other Duc riders lol)

  18. Is the darkening of the fluid a "problem"?I bought mine 18 months old with the fluid black , just thought it was the fluids colour .
