1200 DVT Early Newbike Woes

  1. Certainly not when it comes out the bottle. I'm going to bleed mine through till it looks right

  2. My 2013 MTS leaks from the master cylinder, usually only after "spirited" riding. It is the same as the OP, round the back of the cap and blown back over the mirror stem. Jon.

  3. Sounds like it's time to flush that fluid. It turns black from heat and the slow degradation of rubber in the system, and it absorbs moisture over time. It's good to flush it at least every other year, as fresh, dry fluid will extend the life of the components. Most brake fluid is clear/ light amber colored when new.

  4. Hi just fitted the oberon off my 10 plate to the DVT.

  5. Should the fluid have gone black within 18 month and 2800 miles ?Bikes I've had in the past never have.

  6. Mine was pretty dark after a year

  7. Pfft... My heads in the bin, one minuet it a question about brake reservoirs then it turns in to clutch slave cylinders and what make to buy? :Nailbiting:

  8. It probably suggests a build up of dirt somewhere contaminating the fluid. It does darken in time, but it tends to go from a light straw colour to a golden syrup colour, which in brakes usually takes about 4 years, by which time its ready to change anyway.

  9. Just getting back to my leaky reservoir guys - would an after market cap sort this issue? Cheers in advance. Would I invalidate the Duc warranty if If itted one? And lastly any recommendations for this cap? Cheers

  10. Bandit how did you find DucatI Glasgow to deal with? I'll be looking to trade my ZZR in early next year for a brand new S just wondering how "accommodating" they are to do a deal? Cheers

  12. hi nivver actually dealt with Glasgow ducati - apart from the odd phone call - all I can say they seem like nice folk to talk to and are very knowledgable about all things Ducati.

I went to J&L in Carlisle. Tek care though if you go - they are Kwacka AND Duc dealers and have sold quite a few H2's & H2R's!!! Nice people as well and quite bonkers about bikes and have to say they introduced me to the Ducati brand by loaning me a 899 Panigale some months ago whilst my Kwacka was in fer a service. So the seeds were sown then......

  13. No it wont. I put a Rizoma cap on mine and it still leaks tiny droplets as before. It must be something to do with the design. I just put a sock on mine.

  14. So that's 3 now with leaky brake rezzes and counting, hmm and here's me thinking it was utter tosh. Oh well you live n learn.

  15. The brake\clutch fluid should be straw coloured\translucent. It does absorb water over time and get darker. Just changed mine at 3yrs. I think it's in the service schedule. My Harley's the same only you can't see it so easily (no see-through reservoirs).

  16. So back to the leaky reservoir - J&L in Carlisle seem to think that there's a non-recall re-torqueing of the reservoir required and that despite the cap being a BREMBO spec'd component it can still leak.......but over torquing can cause the cap to bow (two bolts hold it in place) and causing loss of fluid worsening the problem! my concern is that :-
    1) if fluid is weeping/leaking out - then air/moisture must be getting in!!
    2) Some of you are saying the fluid colour degrades quite quickly (see note 1)
    3) WTF? it shouldn't be doing it in the first place!?!
    4) Will subsequent damage to the paint/metal work due to the leak be a further warranty claim?
    5) We should all complain to Ducati UK about such issues (they're surely better than Piaggio who owns Aprilia who never acknowledge their customers!).
    6) I appear to have found my soapbox!

  17. Got a free red one from Fast Bikes mag stashed away somewhere lol
But surely that isn't the answer.......

  18. Surely it just needs a rubber inlay gasket doesn't it?

    Honestly, bloody Italians.

  19. Thought things we're going too well, after 2 months and 1600 miles my DVT has just this weekend developed 2 faults.

1st is the well documented fuel sensor so gauge isn't reading and
The bike will not longer recognise the key so cannot start it without entering the PIN number, this could be the key battery but if it was flat (in 2 months!!!) then I thought the dash key warning comes on.
Oh well the joys of owing a Ducati Grrrrr.. but still love it.

    Footnote

As anyone tried to replace the key battery, its like doing the rubic cube, instructions ... remove the metal part of the battery... assume they mean metal part of the key with Ducati embossed on it, remove plastic case by sliding forward... didnt even get to that part, fell at the first hurdle trying to remove the metal part. Assitance required Doh
