Bbs Problems?

  1. hello all!
I'm bumming that my first real post is to solve problems with my new bike! But here goes:

I have a 2014 multi S Touring with about 4500 miles on the clock. Last weekend it lit up the check engine idiot light, accompanied by a DSS error code. I stopped and restarted the bike and it cleared. Whew! I figured it was a Skyhook error, so I wasn't too worried about completing my 600 mile weekend.

This weekend I went for a fast 50 - 60 mile ride, the returned home to meet up with my wife who wanted to get on her bike too. After about 20 minutes we set out. Within a mile my Multi was running erratically on a low steady throttle opening. I kept on but soon noticed that the neutral light was blinking every time the engine faltered. Then I noticed that the gear indicator was going nuts 1..3..N..2..1..4..2 etc. To this point the menu screen had stayed on the Touring screen as was set. But then it went to Error Code BBS, and after a while Error Code DSS. At the end or our dirt road I stopped and restarted a few times, but it never cleared. It did do a "re calibrating preload setup" once but still went back to the error codes after completing recalibration routine. First the BBS error code, then in a second or two it changes to DSS error code. On the way back home (3 miles) almost all the idiot lights were on steady. ABS, engine, low fuel (which is on all the time anyway, waiting for replacement fuel sensor) Neutral, etc.. Once home I restarted it for one last try, and before turning over the starter the gear indicator was flashing a "C" and the Neutral light is flashing as well. I powered off without trying to start it any more. My wife noticed something smelled hot, and I agreed.

Too frustrated to work on the brand new bike on a beautiful weekend in the end of August in New England, I walked away. I realize I have to get at this quickly to be able to enjoy the rest of a short season. I've looked this up on this forum, but have not read of any '14s with this problem.

Does anyone have experience with this problem?!

My dealer is not a high volume dealer, and not near my home. There is a larger dealer a bit farther away, Seacost Sport Cycle, who I expect does more service work. Advice on this part?

    Thanks, Haze

  2. I've not had a Multi but I've had BBS errors with a previous bike and I'd say that whatever the issue is it's much more likely to be some kind of dodgy wiring or connector causing the error than a dodgy BBS.

  3. Hi Haze

You from the USofA? if so, i should advise that "bumming" has a slightly different meaning in the UK than i assume it does over with you.

If it does mean the same, well, that's up to you, I have no problem with homosexuality.

Hope the bike gets fixed soon.

  6. Whoops! Bumming is being upset about something. No offense to anyone who fancies the UK kinda bumming, but it's not what I meant!

  7. Okay, I'll have a look. I keyed it on this morning, and it won't even turn over, and the "C" and neutral light are still flashing.

  8. I think the UK equivalent would be "gutted". Just trying to save you from a hole world of pain.

  9. I'll refrain from a sarcastic remark here, and thanks!

  10. pardon the pun?
