Tyre Choices... 899

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by Advikaz, Aug 24, 2015.

  1. Yep another tyre thread.

Now, I can't see the Corsas lasting very long and ideally would like a 2ct tyre for my new 899 once I've chewed the originals...

What are my options.... SportSmart2's? Never used these, any good?

Any other options? I'm aware of the TC issue with sizing etc.

    Thanks

  2. I'm sure Mr @El Toro would be able to give some good advice, having the same bike as you :)
Too many options out there if you ask me!!!! Good luck :upyeah:

  3. I've always used variations of pilot roads, but they don't come in 180 :(

  4. 180/55 or 180/60 ???

  5. the 899 is 180/60 is it not?

  6. I believe it is.....bugger,yes that will sort of limit your choices,as 55 profile is the commonest...........give my ex-workplace a ring, they are trade only, but will offer you good advice, especially if you ask for Bryn, and tell them Jen gave you the number....Cambrian Tyres 01970 624004

  7. Thank you mate, Will inquire when I've wrecked the corsas (probably only a few months haha)

  8. No probs.....like I said, there are sooo many choices out there, but being out of the bike trade for a bit 180/60,I don't know how much choice you have.

  9. I like Pirelli rubber and always use the SuperCorsas on the 1199. Rosso Corsas and Angels are worth a look if you want something thats still high performance but more road friendly to last longer.

  10. I'd be tempted to give the Sportsmart IIs a try. I use Roadsmart IIs on my KTM and I'm very impressed with them. The RS IIs are reckoned to be as good as the original Sportsmarts. The Sportsmart II have moved the standard up another notch again with improved wet grip. They're a very good tyre. Well worth a try.

  11. Depends what you want the tyre for as well......if you want an out and out race/street tyre you'll compromise the wet handling capability,if you want a tyre to last longer the sports/touring tyres are excellent, but may need a bit of warmth through them if you are planning on honing around on them.

  12. To be honest, I've always though that most good Sport touring tyres are more than enough for the road.

I'm not going to be tracking it much.

  13. Deffo....I'm a big fan of Bridgestones and I always go with the sport/touring BT023/T30,but before the Ducati,I used to swear by the Michelin Pilot Road series.....sometimes it's best to stick to what you're comfortable with,it's an expensive way to find out if you don't like a certain tyre!

  14. I don't think you'll get a sports-touring tyre in 180/60. You want a road orientated sports tyre. Its a pity Metzeler don't produce the M7RR in that size. At least I don't think they do. I'm pretty sure they only offer that size in Raceteks.

  15. So pretty much leaves me with the Dunlops then I guess.

Well at least it's dual compound!

  16. I'm sure you're right,as 180/60 was originally developed on the racetrack, and I certainly wouldn't advise putting a 55 profile on,I know people who have done it the other way round.

  17. when you're ready,like I said,give Cambrian a ring,they'll give you the options available in the right size.....sorted :upyeah:
They'll also give you unbiased feedback from their customers too ;)

  19. Looking for new tyres for my s1000r, road biased as got Pyrenees trip soon. Pirelli Corsa rear barely goes over one thousand road miles. Complete waste of time IMO unless you have money to burn.
    My choices;
    Sportsmart 2s
    Metzler m7rr
    Michelin Power 3s
the Dunlops I ran on my MTS1200 including a track day and some hard road use. Liked them and managed just over 3k from the rear
    Metzler gets good reviews
Michelin Im having problems getting user feedback. Loved road 2s, not so keen on the 3s.
Its very unlikely my S1r will see the track as I would rather hire a bike and risk the deposit than bin it. So fast road tyres are the order of the day.

  20. I've got sportsmart 2's on my bike at the mo (and had them on my 848) I've done Scotland (1300 miles) and 1500 miles road and a trackday and they are in good shape front and rear.

They are a very 'stiff' tyre which some don't like but I think they are good and rate them over supercorsa
