749 190 Profile Tyre Over Standard 180

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Dubs, Aug 24, 2015.

  1. Not stating it for the 999, just in general...............

  2. thry developed bike with a 180/55, then stuck a crap low profile 190/50 on for fashion.

  3. Those Italians eh??

  4. so,, can anyone put some light on the / any diff on the wheel rim size.

  5. the OP was for 749

  6. :Muted: should've quoted 999streetfighter's post

  7. :)

  8. forgive my ignorance, but i often see posts (in relations to tyres) stating that the only difference between the 749/999 and 748/9xx blah blah is the engine size so the handling characteristics and tyre choice should be the same over the range for handling but surely the power delivery of the larger/smaller engine difference must play a part to some degree? (not a degree that i would notice granted) but a lager contact patch for a higher hp motor, p;perhaps sacrificing some handling? or do i have it all wrong?

  9. Same :)

  10. Over tiring can reduce the contact patch depending on the profile :)

  11. no expert here :Shamefullyembarrased: ,,,but i would expect the radius of the rear tyre has to match that of the front and fitting a larger rear may upset the relationship..

  12. You mean the radius of the profile, not of the tyre I guess?

  13. understand that but i keep hearing that there is no difference between (for example) a 749 and a 999 apart from the engine size/hp.. but surely this is a difference that would affect tyre choice?

  14. well yes,, but i thot that would be a taken as we ( some ) are discussing the tyre profile ( 190 / 180 ) / rim size and not the radius of the wheel / tyre

  15. see above....depends on the rim size of the wheel......but you STILL have to take into consideration rear huggers longer/chain in particular.

  16. Yes but someone jumping in on the thread may be erroneous as to your particular meaning so I was just clarifying for them before they had chance to upset you - it's not really a radius - but a profile of compound curves merging together :)

  17. well the different aspect ratio of the tyre means the radius will be different. Then again what do I know, I run a 195/65 on 748.

  18. maybe a diff in wheel rim width,, but no replys on this .

  19. Dont know any other superbike with a 5.5 rim . Most have a 6 inch rim that actually suits the 190 tyre . 749 has a 5.5 inch rim same as 999 but has the correct size tyre at 180 . Cant figure why ducati decided to go 190 with a 5.5 rim , probably cheaped out , its an individual choice as to what you like best . I use a 180 always have and always will.
