got a 1200 s touring had it 6 months is a 2014 spec just done 5,000 miles its been fault less (touchwood) and really is a great bike fast becoming my all time fav ....which used to be a first gen R1 .. advice please not yet test ridden new model DVt but toying with the idea to get one or should i keep mine and add some bits to it it is totaly standard except for a Givi rack and topbox what extras should i get ? and what mods should i do ? any people had both and is the new model really so much better ? regards PJ
1/ If you are short like me, as that was 95% reason I upgraded. 2/ Unless you have shed loads of money, and it does not matter to get a poor return on the one you have, and pay almost top dollar on the new one plus the packs you will add. What can you really add to yours? LED's if you ride at night? Rear LEDS are nice, Crash Bars (saved mine when I dropped it one day as being such a short ass Exhausts and Tail tidy's are a pain to upgrade if you use the Panniers. sure some others might add a few other bits. I would stick with what you have unless you really can get a deal of a life time.
The new bike is a lot better test ridden both the new bike is truly a good example, art of motorcycle engines
A remap really smooths out the engine at low revs (as does DVT) if that bothers you, and it's definitely cheaper than an upgrade!
As the Proff said, if you really must have a DVT then get one. However for me, i would stick with what I have, its a low mileage example it is the touring so has the electronic suspension gizmos! I would add crash bungs, maybe a tail tidy and perhaps some sticky rubber, a couple of track days too! HTH, Neil.
Hi I am a bit vertically challenged and the seat height is the only thing that I didn't like about my 2013 1200S. It's OK when it's just me on the bike, but two up with luggage can be challenging to say the least. I was stunned at how big the 'hit' was to PX in for the new model. So i modified one of the presets (enduro 2 up) to have minimal preload on the suspension, we only use this for mounting and dismounting. I do use Urban in built up areas when it's all stop start nonsense. All the other other time it's in sport mode. The other 'modification' is cheap and simple, and has made a massive difference! I made up some 'riser' insoles for my Sidi boots, this has made my footing a lot better and not affected gear change etc at all. They cost me nothing in materials as I had some fleece backed roofing membrane kicking around and a can of spray glue. These changes are for sure a boat load cheaper than changing the bike. And I prefer the look of the 2013 to the DVT. I just need to get the rear brake working better and a pedal that sticks out a bit more and I'm a happy bunny. I have a full Termi pipe, different screen and spacers and a navihalter sat nav bracket as add ons. I have also had a few parts powder coated satin black. HTH Deaks
if it wasn't for it being more manageable with my 27" inside leg I would have stayed with my my13 skyhook the new one is better in lots of ways tho
I popped into my dealers today, only for a quick coffee, got talking about the revised 899 but ended up with a great offer on my 2013 PP against a dvt,had no intention of changing but now cant stop thinking about it, fcuk fcuk fcuk, over the last few months i had convinced myself i needed a rsv4,bloody hate bikes!
Did you intend to keep both and if so what was the logic or did it just work out that way ? Do you still ride both ?
Height isn't a issue for me 5'11 ...a remap sounds interesting. .where can I get one and what specifically do I ask for I'm techno phobe
Paulfastbikes, finance can't be a major consideration, as your thinking of buying a DVT S. So putting that aside, from what I can gather the DVT handles better, the skyhook is better, it does more to the gallon, has cornering lights, has better brakes, has more BHP and what clinches it for me a lower seat height. How much money would you have to spend to get a 2013 up to that sort of spec plus the added hassle of doing it all (unless that's your thing) ?
You would have to try a DVT first IMHO as its a very different bike. I test rode one on Saturday and decided that for the moment i will keep my 2013 bike as whilst there was much to like, it has lost some of the 'Ducati engine feel' and the seat was just rubbish. I much prefer the seating position of my bike.
Both are fully legal, insured and in perfect condition for riding. I might be prepared to sell the 2011 bike, if somebody wants to buy it, but I haven't taken active steps to sell it so far. I don't really need both, obviously; anyone only needs one bike actually, but it is quite nice to have options. Some folk seem to have a whole shed full of bikes!
Get a nice exhaust and a remap, save your self some money and don't get hit by the loss in value of your bike. I love mine and cant see me getting a DVT unless mine gets stolen or god forbid written off, I cant justify the extra money just for a smother bottom end and a few more gimmicks than I already have. I'm not saying the DVT isn't better but if your happy with you bike why change?
I have a 2013 touring s that I have just had remapped by X-bikes in Wisbech, I am on my second Multistrada having previously had a 2010 which was also remapped but by CJS. Right!...... This is only my opinion and I have test ridden the new DVT and for that matter a BMW XR, I am 5'9" tall inside leg 29", this is starting to sound like a dating ad now! I prefer the 2013 over the DVT, my reason is the ergonomics fit me better and I'm no lampost! Also a remapped twinspark is every bit as smooth as the DVT. I will say in the DVT's defence probably not as fuel efficient. I also will say the skyhook on the DVT is better than my bike, much more like the Ohlins bike with the semi active ECU. But! The cost of the new bike if you want all bells and whistles and I'm a gadget man is ridiculous! This brings me too the XR! I rode the BMW and quite liked it! Please wait before you excute me! The quick shift is fantastic! Ergonomics the same! But it isn't a Ducati and it looks terrible! So.... My point is, if you can afford it the DVT is an option but I opted to spend some money on improving what I know and still love because after getting off the DVT and the XR I got back on my 2013 and it was pre-remap and still loved it! I will be going back to X-bikes next month to have a quickshifter fitted which also has downshift with auto blip so I have the best of both worlds! I'll let you know how that pans out!
Do you find there is a pattern to when you would use one rather than the other ? If the 2015 is a better version than the 2011 when would you use the 2011 given that they are both Multistradas ? Has the 2011 become the hack and the 2015 for best for example ?
