I put a couple of pints of water into the petrol tank thinking it was petrol. The bike ran for about 100 yards then stopped,iv'e emptied what i could out of the tank and put about a gallon of fuel in.Tried starting the bike but just makes a clicking sound and a engine fault a on the dash.I kept trying the starter put it tripped out i heard it reset itself but now get a unknown device on the dash.Rory
Doesn't petrol float on top of water? If that's right, you could well still be getting water coming through.
Removed tank and filler cap and shuck what i could,i'm going to remove plugs tomorrow, just hope nothings damaged as water cannot be compressed.
It will still have air in there as it would for petrol. It's when you get water in through the air intake that it goes bang.
Do you have taps in your house that deliver petrol as well as water? Is that how you got water and petrol mixed up? Welcome btw Dave
Hi to everyone thanks for your replies i'm inquiring for my son.he found some liquid in my petrol can and smelt like fuel but i had refilled my chevy truck radiator but left some water in the can doh.
Just a quick message to say we've got the Panigai fired up after putting water in the fuel tank.Remove tank and petrol pump, injectors, and having the tank sucked dry. After all that just got clicking noise and unknown device showing on the dash.Rang a Ducati specialist and was told it could be a flatish battery because it feeds 2 ECU's.After a couple of hours on charge it eventually fired up.Tw-t
Have to say, the clicking noise you described did make me think sprag clutch but I dismissed that thought as irrelevant as I thought you'd know if you had a flat battery. I guess you must have flattened the battery by turning the engine over a lot. Glad somebody else realised what had happened and you got it sorted.
Glad you sorted it. Hello & welcome to both of you. Love it when people manage to sort their bikes out before just dumping them off at the dealers.
Hi Old Rider and the the rest of you yeh he was well chuffed when it finally fired up.I was supprised it was low on charge as since the bike packed up it started clicking and showing weird and wonderful messages on the dash.I own a Honda SP2 with over 61.000 miles with only a new battery since bought. The fasteners are fragile with already a couple snapped off shame 3mm allen key headed bolt for the seat !!! daft.Looks the bollocks tho.
These bikes have a very resistive starting circuit, which only gets worse over time. It's well worth investing in a cable kit which addresses this problem. @Exige on here will be delighted to help, I'm sure...
