Yep, these rumours have indeed been bubbling around since the 999, I remember them saying 'The end is nigh, we have gone as far as we can with 1000cc Twin'.... Tht's before they bought dinner for the boss of WSBK ;-)
I'd be dissapointed if wesacrificed the supermodel thinness of the Panigale for a chubby V4. The RSV4 feels nice but it's very much like the jap inline 4's in that you just slot into it. It took a bit of getting used to all the space on the Panigale but I really like it now.
Let`s not forget that Ducati have already produced a V4 for the road. Personally I ride them for two reasons. Style-a combination of looks and, (less definably,) class, but also the v twin engine. The Noise, feel and power delivery cannot be replicated, IMO by a 4cyl. Is not a major part of their marketing strategy to play on those kind of strengths and distance themselves from the Japanese hoard?
