1098 Seriously Thinking Of A 1098/1198

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Kevster84, Aug 30, 2015.

  1. So after riding a 600 on the road for 3 years I'm getting an itch for some more cc's and the 1098/1198 has caught my eye. I'm not new to twins I have a rsv Mille as a track bike and love it.
I do about 6k of fast road riding a year so are these bikes up to the job or are they a bit temperamental. Can they be set up to steer quickly and handle the bumpy B roads? These are must have things for me as I'm only a light guy and do like spirited rides shall we say. Any advice welcome. Cheers.

My current bikes. I know how forums love pics.

  3. Hi mate & welcome a long. Once you get the suspension sorted they're fantastic bikes.
If you are after a minter, have a look at the black 1198s in the bikes for sale section. All the goodies already fitted. You probably won't find a better example any time soon. :upyeah:

  4. I've just been looking at it. Lol I'm still figuring things out ATM as the prices are all over the place on these things.

  5. If you can stretch go 1198 as more refined out the box and a bit more relaible drom what I hear

  6. When you say refined do you mean not as exciting? Or there were faults with the 1098 which got sorted on 1198?
I have read that later 1098's are more reliable though.

  7. Less savage and more rideable. Tbh not ridden either (!) but have plenty of mates who have

Like going from an SPS to an R. Which I have ridden

Or the mts 1200 to the new DVT lol

  8. I haven't ridden either yet but more rideable does sound good but obviously depends on the person.
I have ridden my bros pikes peak multistrada which has a similar engine?? Not 100% on that.

  9. I have commuted all summer Kev from Hertfordshire to Kensington (1hr each way) on an 1198s. Thats how refined and easy to live with they are.
It is a beautifully handling bike, have a go one one as soon as you can. The power still impresses me, brutally fast.

  10. I have a friend with an 1198 which I'm working up to asking him for a go. Lol I was at croft with him a couple of months back and it was impressive through Jim clark s's. It def would out torque the Mille and that's a right laugh on the road.

  11. And Mille's handle like poo, far worse than a 998 and 999 but not ridden a 1098/1198

  12. Lol you haven't ridden mine. Awesome handling bike. Been fiddled by kais performance and it's a weapon if you know how to ride.

  13. Not a clue how to ride no :( but if it helps I am unstable :D

  14. I got called a head case just this afternoon. Lol I don't think the guy had been out with someone like me before. Lol

  15. Your gay :Wideyed::Wtf::Dead: end of conversation, I'm a lessie :Facepalm::Finger:

  16. Haha on the bikes although we were dressed in leather. Oh er.

  17. Mille 75 lb torque (?) 1198

    120 ish hp...160 hp

  18. I was on a b road today and my mate came passed at 130 on the back wheel, now he's a nutter, but had him into the next corner - and I'm not young and stupid like you, just old and sensible :upyeah:

  19. Standard yeah mine has a bit more with chip exhaust etc. Be like 130bhp. Nothing compared to a 1198.

  20. What makes you think I'm young? Stupid maybe. Lol
