899 Swingarm Casting Mark?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by andyd76, Aug 30, 2015.

  1. Anyone else have a mark like this on their 899 swingarm? Dealer says is a casting mark....

  2. If it's a casting mark then it's an aesthetic fault and shouldn't have left the Audi factory! Check others if the dealer has any, I bet they are OK - if from new then demand it is corrected. Just out of interest are they not painted? Can you feel the defect?

  3. Apparently their demo bike had the mark but I didn't see it myself. I mentioned it when the bike was a few months old but I've only recently seen a few other bikes and couldn't see any kind of mark. I'm starting to feel like I'm being blagged...

Cannot feel it, and can only be seen at the right angle. And yes it's paint of some sort, I'd say it was a paint defect

  4. Look bad enough on the photo - I wouldn't accept it.

  5. Strange casting mark!

    Mine hasn't got one:(

  6. That's what I though......

Thanks Exige, might be another visit to the dealer. Still interested in any other opinions though. It does stand out like a sore thumb on a very clean bike.

  7. Neither have any others that I've seen. Definitely a trip back to the dealer, I'm a little disappointed as they're usual very helpful.

  8. In a high or low pressure casting in alloy you would not get a sink depression mark that wouldn't cover with paint. I'm sure they are painted. Looks like a stain of some kind to me. Don't think the dealer would know what a 'casting mark' looked like, but even if it was it is a unacceptable aesthetic fault on a premium product if the customer thinks so, simple.

  9. I don't own an 899 but checked out my mates and he has no mark on his swinger.

If it was me then I'd want it replaced and corrected on a new bike. My new Tuono had a small mark on the generator cover; straight back and got it replaced.

  10. I reckon it's a boot mark to be honest. Which may have been touched in.

  11. I'd agree if I hadn't had the bike from new

  12. It looks like a birthmark. Take it back and shout.

  13. Maybe got scuffed in the show room? Who knows mate.

  14. Clearly it's not right so I'll take it back. Stands out like a sore thumb on a very clean bike.

  15. Mine has a slight discolouration similar to yours only noticeable in certain light. I put it down to the heel of my boot rubbing, but it seems to go with a wipe over of gt85

  16. Mines not got that mark but the paint has worn through there after 6 mths by my boot

  17. Good news, dealer took another look and agreed it wasn't right. Ducati have now authorised a replacement swingarm under warranty.

  18. nice result.

Sometimes it amazes me what bike manufacturers try to get away with. How did that pass quality ?

If it was a car there'd be no question re the finish etc. Makes you wonder.

  19. If it was there from new why didn't the owner question it on collection -so makes me think it wasn't there ?
