  1. Ok, I'll try that, it'll also save me a few pennies. ;)

  2. If you fancy a light clutch as well as a quiet one, it's worth trying the arrangement I have.
Just start with a friction plate and alternate, ending with a plain plate at the top. Simple.
If you want make sure the dished plate is included, you can identify it by looking for a
small punch mark at the base of a tab in line with the half moon cut out. The punch mark should be facing you on the outside.

  3. Getting the plates out gets increasingly harder as you get deeper into the stack. Having the bike on the side stand makes access easier but gravity is against you, so having the bike upright or leaning towards you might help.
The easy way though is to use magnets, the type on a telescopic stalk. The best I have found come fromSainsburys of all places! They have them on their DIY section with other stuff by the same manufacturer and are powerful enough that a pair will lift out even an alloy friction plate via the sintering in the friction compound.
Use the footrest to hang the plates on as they come out. Obviously, keep the spare plain plates so you can put one or more back if you should get any slip at some point but I haven't with my 999.
I use an electric screwdriver to whizz the bolts in and out. Not enough torque to any damage but makes the job much less tedious.
