1198 Unplugged?

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Almightytomo, Aug 31, 2015.

  1. Hi I'm at last the proud owner of a Ducati and have been well pleased with the 1198s I've bought.
Having to adapt my riding style a bit from the VTR1000f I used to trash around everywhere!
While checking round it today and eventually getting round to sticking it on charge I noticed this plug on the bottom left of the engine. As you can see it isn't plugged in for some reason. Is it the quick shifter? If not what is it please as it seems to ride ok but doesn't shift up or down without the clutch as usual.

  2. Looks like the plug for the exhaust lamdas

  3. Does that mean it's ok to leave unplugged or should it be plugged in?
What will happen if I plug it in?
I have been told that the ecu has been done to smooth out the power delivery.

  4. check your exhausts to see if the lamdas have been blanked or disconected
they usually get removed when the ecu is reflashed if its running open exhausts
if its running sweet i would just leave it as is

  5. Shift up or down without the clutch as normal? What have you been riding? This isn't a 1299 with auto-blipper ;)

As above probably lamba, just ignore it

  6. Ok thanks. I thought that the 1198s had a quick shifter or is just an assist?
Also been riding a K1300s which does have a quick shifter on.

  7. The sp has a quick shifter, dont know if others do but think not

  8. The S doesn't. Think the R does, as does the SP as you said.

  9. I'd recommend taping over the plugs so the terminals are not ruined by moisture.

  10. Ok thanks for the replies and being put straight.
However I have this on my bike? image.jpg

  11. Right I think I've bottomed it.
I was sure the bloke said it had one and that he didn't use it.
I'd tried to quickshift but to no avail. Now after a little bit more digging I see that you can switch the quickshifter off and on.
It was off and is now on! lol
Time to try it out tomorrow morning. :upyeah:

  12. Oh and yes I agree I'll tape up the terminals before they start to corrode.

  13. Google 1198 gearbox and quick shifters mate, as they don't seem to have too many fans, particularly owners of SP's.

  14. Guess I'll switch it off then.
WOW the BMW K1300s has a quick shifter on which works really well. Great fun accelerating hard and short shifting through the gears.

  15. What year is your bike? When the Panigale was launched they loaded the 1198 with DTC and DQS to sell the remaining bikes. Even the base 1198.

  16. How long did you have the K? I have heard a fair number of BMWs went thru gearboxes too.

  17. My 2010 1198s has DTC but no DQS (as far as I know).

  18. It's a 2009 so I'm guessing that it's been added afterwards and had the ecu done.
I'll switch it back off as I haven't been using it anyway.
The K1300s has over 25K on it and the gearbox is fine having said that when warm it's hard to get neutral!
