1200 Re-map Or Not - 2013 S

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by MotoNik, Sep 1, 2015.

  1. Hi Folks,

My mouse button has been hovering dangerously close to the "Buy" button for a de-cat and pipe. But I'm wondering what the collective wisdom is on whether or not a re-map would be essential for my 2013 S?

    Thanks,

    Nik

  2. I should add, I'm not particularly bothered about more performance, it's mainly just for the sound!! And to get rid of that abomination hanging underneath my bike of course...

  3. I have fitted a mivi decat pipe and it comes with a baffle that fits down between the main join pipe and the extension piece. Because of that I just fitted it and ran on the basis some back pressure still exist as opposed to a straight through race pipe. I have not noticed any difference and run it all from UK to germany and back without any issues.

I would be interested in the collective wisdom view on remapping though .....

  4. Personally, if a manufacturer invests a fortune in R and D so that it operates at its optimum with everything in place, how by taking away or changing something like the cat and not having its parameters altered can it be working efficiently?
    Just my view :)

  5. I agree, remap very time, its the only way to be sure and you will feel the difference!

  6. if you want perfect spend the money on a map. If you want good enough run as is

  7. But the question is, will "good enough" harm my engine?

  8. Not imho

  9. I guess the dilemma here is do I take a risk on an expensive engine. Simple answer is no. Ultimately I think I'd really only feel happy knowing the bike has seen some dyno time to verify air/fuel ratios, if nothing else.

  10. I have changed loads over the years, never had an issue. IME I have never heard of anyone having an issue either (post two strokes and carbs!) with simply replacing the std system

  11. The bike is covered with fuel sensors and the maps have sufficient scope to deal with altitude changes and big temperature changes, the small fluctuations in back pressure should be well inside the capacity of the ecu to iron out (assuming the baffle is fitted). I have pulled plugs to take a look and they don't look like the engine is running out of sorts. Like the man said its your money if you want perfect someone will take your money, It was never perfect out of the crate thanks to emission regs so you will always get an improvement with a remap.

  12. Nik,I rode my bike down to CJS from Lancashire and stayed there for the day.
Late afternoon I paid the man(Chris) and headed off to my sister's,half an hour away,it took me 2 hours to get there,I didn't want to get off the bike, like night and day.
It's the best mod I've done to the bike.

  13. If you don't mind me asking, how much did the work cost?

  14. I just installed the Tune Boy " Cruise and Tune" package last night, and I have to say the bike is so good now... its actually easier to ride slowly (like my 1200GS) I'm completely blown away... to think it could even be better with a dyne tune... Just amazing. Dirt cheap it was considering the difference.

  15. I think I paid £500 for the re-map plus the de-cat pipe and Akrapovic end can,not sure about the cost of those.
The Akrapovic is 3 years old and still looks good, now it's carbonned up it sounds fantastic

  16. Very interested in this, sounds like some research is required there. The idea of something user-configurable really appeals to me. I assume this is something akin to a power commander?

  17. Because the manufacture has to make the bike conform to EU emission regulation so the do the beat they can not the best the engine can offer.

  18. I agree BCG, but they've spent thousands on R and D to achieve the best the engine can offer under those restraints, so by removing something as influential as the cat without altering the fuelling and whatever else they have to do these days, I doubt whether the engine would still be operating at its optimum.
Back in the days of BSA Bantam ownership, someone told me once that if I removed the baffles from the exhaust it would go faster. Being YTS (young thick and stupid) I believed them and set about removing said baffles there by achieving two things.
    1. The noise went up by a couple of DB's
    2. The bike went slower, and on a BSA Bantam, that is really slow
But I was young and thought I was a tuning god :)

  19. Of you havent, you should ride a boke CJS has done the duelling on, then try yours. Then say the manufacturer does a better job ;)

  20. That's my point sir, or are you saying its worth CJS doing their magic on a standard (exhausted) bike, which might be worth doing, as I cant see Ducati spending a day dynoing each bike coming off their production line. :)
