View attachment 55083 hi, looking at this bike for sale. It's a 2003 999s ?? Has 05 coloured frame. Also looks like swing arm was painted. I can only think the frame was painted or it's well ahead of its time !!! What do you think ? Is it possible it came from factory with red frame and black wheels ??
The frame and swing arm have been painted - 2003 and 2004 were grey frame and grey old style swing arm. 2005 and 2006 were deep alloy black swing arms and red frame.
yes,, mk1 swing arm and fairing,, frames are same only diff colour,, i ask,, why has the frame been painted which is not an easy job, swing arm has also been painted , but that is no big deal.
Frame probably isn't painted. It's a mix 'n match 2004 model. Old swingarm and fairings but new frame, wheels and belt covers.
So they do - just realised it's Aussi too, wheels are narrow spoke certainly. Did the UK get red frames in 2004 - they are silver in the 2004 brochure?
The wheels are all the same on base and S models, only the color was changed from grey to black (so no differences in spokes, only in R models). 2004 was the year bikes were made from parts they had lying around
My 2004 (04) 999S has a silver frame and grey cast swinger, I thought the red frame came out in 2005 together with black box swingarm...could it be different for the OZ market?
Met guy other day with 05 R , red frame , black box but mk1 fairing ( carbon ) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,fair bit of mix match around transition period i think
Red frame facelift base and S 749/999 came out 2005 though there are a couple registered late 04. Some silver frame(04 manufacture)749/999 were refitted with facelift bodywork and black arm at factory to make old stock more sellable in 05. 04 999R/749R have red frame black box arm + old style carbon fairing. 05 999R facelift carbon fairing. 05 749R facelift plastic fairing.
They went from silver to red frames 2004/5 ...I looked for 12 months for the a silver frame 749 as red bike with a red frame was too much for me ..lol
In that case I would be a bit sceptical, its too early for mix and match transitional bits and I would also smell a rat regarding the black painted swinger, looks like someones been trying to make it look like the later model for some reason?...also I think it looks like the earlier front fairing too from what I can make out from the small thumbnail on show, and shouldn't the bip subframe be silver (or red if later model) not black...confusing....how is it described in the ad?
