  1. Hi guys
I'm looking to become an actual ducati owner for the first time in my life after owning for five years a F4 1078rr.
But I'm torn between the new panigale and the "old" 996sps...
Which one would you take home and because of what reason or for those who own both which one would you never sell and why?
My biggest scare with the 996 is that I would be missing the power since my previous bike was the crazy fast F4 1078RR.
Looking forward to receive your advice and opinions!
    I thank you in advance.
    Best regards
    Jan

  2. If it was purely for looking at, and perhaps taking out on the finest of summers days, I'd take the 996.

Also as an investment? I imagine they'll appreciate?

But if it was my only bike, it'd be Panigale all day long

  3. Depends on how much you will use it. If its only for high days and holidays them probably the 996 but the Panigale will be a much better all round bike.

  4. New bikes are so much better than old bikes that it's almost silly. If it's about the riding then the Panigale without a doubt. If it's about the ownership of something special then I guess that's a decision only you can make, neither will disappoint though.

  5. I have a 996 SPS and it would be the Pantygirdle

  6. As above, what are you using it for? SPS may want for power but it can be a very scary beast to ride!

  7. Well for me it isn't much for as an investment I just want to have the best time possible when i take it out for a drive and the one that will keep me lusting for whenever i see it...
I know this is really personal but i'm pretty sure that the feeling a bike gives someone while riding it will be mostly the same over a larger group.
To be honest I'm looking for enough reasons to justify the sps as this would be the more emotional buy (+pedigree) even tough that i know that the panigale would be obviously be the better bike and would never let me down in thrills while riding it but then within a few years there will be the other newer bike and we all know what that means...

Sow what do i do in a year time with my bike?
    - 1 track day a year to start the season
    - going to the south of france with it
    - + an additional +-5000km during small summer blasts

  8. If you do buy a good SPS then the financial loss over a year should be less, but it will need more maintenance. Mine now lives on the track and puts out 150 hp. It is horrible to ride at anything less than 100%, and it was never very pleasant before

  9. Head says 1299 heart says 996 :) where's @matt#corse when you need him :D

  10. I think that's pretty much true of all the 916/748/996/998 family.

  11. I think honestly that if u are looking to tour, and want something special, the 1299s. Tbh at the very least u need to go and ride one so u can get a feel for them. I've just bought my 899, all Ducati's feel special, it's as simple as that!

  12. I've seen people setting off from busy bike meets on these bikes. To the non informed members of the biking community the riders look like they've just passed their test, but they deserve admiration because the educated know they are wrestling with it and trying to keep a lid on it till they get away from all the parked up bikes and out onto an empty road where they can let it go.

  13. Pfffff...:Banghead:
    Heart/head, heart/head... (996/1299)
    Pedigree/power, history/power, design/power, soul/power :Wacky:

This shouldn't be this difficult as some Enzo ever said that the newest one is always the better one and the one to have.
    But still that 996sps :Woot:

  14. I spent 8 years on a 916 mono, followed by forgotten years on various other ducatis, and recently 4 months on a 999s, I jumped on a 1299s for a hour at my local dealer and was blown away by the bike. So much so I am going to purchase this month. If you want an intro to everything that was the old 'ish' school ducati sports bike and experience a little bit of pre modern day heritage I would say cut your teeth on the 996, an absolutely top bike, and sooooooooo Ducati. 1299 is fecking sublime and worlds apart. incompatible. For me................ 1299 is the man
