The boiling point is higher, I think 180 degrees (hence being called powercool 180). As the system only gets to 100 degrees ish, it's not close to boiling. That's my laymans understanding of how it works.
I don't think that a layman's understanding overcomes the basics of physics in this case... Sorry to be the harbinger of bad news.
You're wrong. This is why a water based cooling system uses a presurized radiator cap and runs under pressure, to raise the boiling point of the liquid (water). Water boils at 100 degrees at sea level, but if you increase the pressure, you increase the boiling point. This is how a pressure cooker works. A similar principle as to why pilots of spy planes flying at 80,000 ft have to wear pressure suits, if they didn't the liquid around their eyes would start to boil due to the low air pressure at altitude. So if you use a liquid other than water with a higher boiling point, no pressure. Not all liquids boil at the same temperature. I hope you understand now. Anyway, there's plenty of info on this, including threads on here. I don't want this thread to decend into opinions on waterless coolant. There are other places for that. My final word on the subject.
A few more hours spent today. Reffited original switch gear and got all electrical items working. Also found time to fit some Gilles bling Getting there, slowly but surely.
A little more today......... Finished putting the Gilles rear sets on. I changed the fuel tank for an almost new one. The one on the bike had a few scuffs and a scratch. I'll put it to one side and repair it whan i have time, Brake & clutch fluid changed. Oil and filter too. Now that's it's going back together, I think I made the correct decision in polishing the pipes. I'm now starting to see an 'R' looking back at me, and quite a nice one at that. There are a few bits and pieces missing that I'll have to buy. Nothing major.
My OCD kicking in now. Anything that isn't quite right is getting replaced. That front axle nut would annoy the hell out of me if I left it, so it gets replaced. Picked a lot of small parts up from the dealer today, I might get it finished this weekend if I have time. Waterless coolant now added. A little JHP bling too.
Stunning bike. The polished pipes are a work of art and in comparison to the cumberland sausage on the 1199 they are truly gorgeous...
99.9% done now after spending the day in the garage. Just a couple of clips and bolts to buy, then that's it. I changed back to the original master cylnders and re-bled everything. I'd have loved to have kept the Brembo RCS items on, but they just don't work with the standard switchgear. I have ordered some Gilles levers to soften the blow. I've enough bits left over to build another bike I think ! :Wtf: I'm quite pleased with it. It's turned out quite nicely.
I've had a mega busy few weeks with no free time, but I put the Gilles levers on it today and plan to get it MOT'd tomorrow. After that, I should get it's UK registration back, but I'd love to keep the Jersey plate.
Looks great Rob. What brand of carbon side panels did you go for, or do they come as standard on it and are DP ones? Which bike do you prefer riding the most of the three, or as they are different beasts then there is no clear winner?
They are the standard 1098R panels. Well, I haven't tried the R yet, but had a 1098S for a few years. I love the Streetfighter out of the 3. It's a mad thing.
i didnt register it mate, just had a recipt and bill of sale, got it mot'd and insured though my work, never taxed it once, and never got a parking ticket or a speeding ticket. when i did get pulled over by the police they were only interested in it being insured and mot'd which it was.
