  1. Cat amongst the pigeons .

  2. Would be interesting to see the results of a Euro DVT versus the USA bike as the Euro one doesn't have the mapping issues of the USA one. The yanks are getting a bum deal for sure.

I'm much happier with the torque delivery of the DVT versus the S1000XR, much more important to me than top end power at high revs.

  3. That test must have been run by MCN ;). Interesting test sounds like Ducati are going to have to up their game. Competition between the multi and XR can only be a good thing for us.

  4. Not for those who've already got their Multi's :(

  5. Sounds to me that the DVT wants for nothing more than a decent re-map or factory issued map update.

The XR on the other hand could well be solved with different bars or heavier bar weights to counter the vibration.

  6. Enjoyed that, decent riders, BMW looks effing quick, be difficult to choose, were I in the position to do so?

  7. Three year warranty on the bm......that would be a consideration for me!

  8. Wonder what the BM would be like with a race exhaust and re-map ?

  9. "there's something wrong with the Ducati engine tune and Ducati are aware of it"

  10. The bmw is truly a superb bike, but so is the multistrada.

I think engine wise there's more you could do with the multistrada to eek out more umphff than you could with the beemer, purely because one is tuned nigh on perfectly already and the other isn't really.

  11. I have ridden both and theres no doubt the BMW is faster, but on every other aspect the DVT is streets ahead. The handlebar vibration is more of a problem than BMW are letting on and won't be fixed with different bars or bar end weights.

I'm not about to buy either, but if I were it would be a DVT and I love BMWs just not the XR

  12. TBH I think that film is spot on, there is problems with power delivery (torque curve in my view) I do feel when you open the throttle wide it feels like it is bogging down a little, and if you want to get the best out of the DVT engine you need to keep it above 6k then it goes like stink, but then for me you are riding a dam race bike.
The other ? you have to ask is why is there only 132 HP when it is rated at 160 HP if it was evenly matched as it should be, but the bikes be a lot closer in the performance stakes

Good Film though made me chuckle, who said you cant take the off road lol :)

  13. To be honest I don't really care whether the BM has the edge (however thick) on power/speed; having ridden both I really couldn't see myself living with the BM's vibrations for any longer than the test ride - it was so bad I could feel my eyeballs vibrate (and hence vision blur) if I gripped too hard (I know I shouldn't but sometimes it was necessary). I also experienced a major vibe up through the seat and my 'nads on the overrun at about 6500rpm + the seat felt too wide and high for me.
DVT, for all its niggles, still my choice by some margin, although if I was looking for a high speed sex toy, I might be inclined to go for the BM ;).

  14. I brought the XR and sold it after 82 miles, it's only when you potter around at speed limits you realise the vibe issue because you look for faults, it's needs to be ridden hard to understand this bike and where it fits in the market, then it all fits together like a jigsaw. The esa suspension package on XR is shite and way to harsh with limited adjustment, black plastics give it a cheap look.
It's deffo quicker then the dvt i demo'd but the stock dvt manual suspension was tenfold better then the esa on the XR, it's like comparing apples n pears, I'm not bothered mine is faster bo11ox I want something I'm going to enjoy riding and has character and makes me feel special and after the demo on the DVT i brought one on returning the demo.

I tend to think Ducati's are for enthusiastic bods and BMW are for bods whom are not mechanically sympathetic .

  15. It would be interesting to see what the UK DVT would show on the dyno by comparison with this test at 132bhp (yes I know dynos all read differently). Doodle had 157bhp at the back wheel after a cjs remap with a termi pipe. That was with the 1st generation MTS1200 and that extra 25bhp and the lower weight, would make a massive difference in a fight with the XR. The USA DVT has a serious problem when you look at the torque chart so not really a fair comparison at this time. On the road, I think the bar vibration would be hard to live with and of course the Ducati has so much more character and soul (IMO).

Good news that after 6 years, the competition is getting competitive and this may focus the minds at Bologna to make the 2016 even better?

  16. Ffs what is it peolpe dont get? Want POWER and sports bike trick and trinkets, buy a panigale!!

  17. My mate had his pani 1299 on a Dyno today 182 @ wheel 104 lbs torque .

  18. Lets stick that in a multi chassis the the 'its not fast enoygh...not enough pwer' brigade can go and ride it in wet mode coz its too powerful anyway ;)

  19. Must add my two peneth here , my DVT performs very well indeed regarding the power issue, I find if you want it to perform with urgency I have to start in a lower gear than praps my previous generation 13 pikes but once those revs rise and it starts making that turbine like thrust it goes like a missile, but with the added advantage that if I want to bimble I can ride it in a gear higher than my previous without any loss of smoothness, the perfect gentlmans conveyance I would say. Regarding the bm imo might be slightly quicker , but would rather ride the angry bird than the sad old toad !
