have not been able to check the connections, but tbh i am confident that they are good,, if only because it does turn over and start easily now, whereas if they were suspect, like when the battery is, it would not turn over or start at all.. dont forget it was on the optimiser all last night as well , only to show 12.3 this morn
Cant get at battery without striping down the fairing !!! ,,, well , was on optimun all night and this morn showed 12.3 ,,,,,, started no prob ,,,,,,, looks ok , but scared to go any distance , fortunatly dont have to this wek as at work locally .... Will leave off the optimate today see what happens then , if batt goes down then it may well be a duffer ,, ( under warranty )
Cherod Do you have an alarm or tracker fitted to your bike? If you have either, they will put a drain on your battery.

Well , would not start after work yday , ( bat showing 12.3 ) so left it in work ov nite with optimiser on , this morn still only 12.2 and would not start ,,,,,,,, will ( hope to ! ) Jump start and take home today and then fairing off and battery out at week end ,,, hope tf it is the battery !!!!
Thought I would check my DVT's battery voltage today, just for information. Bike last ridden Sunday, not left on charge. Resting voltage showed as 12.3 volts. While starting showed 12.2 volts. Started well. Soon settled to 13.9 - 14.1 volts at fast tickover. This seems satisfactory to me. Later I'll check what voltage it shows after a run.
12.3 is what mine reads,, tried jump from my car last night but no luck,,, going to gt new battery today, if it starts on that then i expect / hope it is the battery, if it does not start then i wwill have to further investigate..
I think you are jumping to the conclusion it's the battery at fault Cherod- it might not be the battery! Save yourself the money and do some simple checks first. Is the engine turning over at a reasonable rate? Have you possibly flooded the engine trying to start it? I would remove the front cylinders coil pack, then remove the spark plug and take a look at that. Is the plug wet or smelling of petrol? Place the spark plug in the coil pack, run a piece of gash cable from the earth of the coil pack to the earth on the engine/frame and try turning the engine over looking to see if you have a spark. Very common problem with these bikes is a faulty fuel pump/injector relay, often mentioned on here, replace with a new one to eliminate that from the equation- available on ebay for about £2!
Well mate , as you prob know ( i dont know if all ducatis are the same or just 749 ) but when turning over prior to firing up it sounds really laboured ( exige ? ) like it will never go for about a cecond or two then bursts into life ,,,,,,( fortunatlly i did see a few u tube vids before i bought it otherwise i would have been worried also when i bought t the guy started it and it was the same , just get used to it ,,,even when it does start it sounds like an old massey ferguson tractor !!!!! ), ). Now it is the same , but does not fire ,,,,
