  1. That's a fancy name for a saucepan!

As for me, working on it now that the kids are getting harder to chase (6 and 4). 6' and 15St. Diet is improving steadily but has always been reasonably healthy, quantity is the issue, we need smaller plates!
Started running 3 times a week a few months ago and am really feeling the benefit but shocking shinsplints may force me to stop. :(

  2. yes, constantly mystified by BBC's approach to I-Player archiving - not a patch on Channel 4.

  3. Andy, just up the compressionand and put another 100cc into that engine. That'll pull you round the track better. You can carry on enjoying lots of food and a sedentary lifestyle.

  4. Yep. Keeping your mouth full at all times to prevent the intake of food helps weight loss :upyeah:

  5. That was the one day of the year I could never really get excited about.

I did however used to really enjoy totally wasting some of the 20 something racing snakes once we got on to the push pull dyno though

  6. Fixed it for ya El T. :upyeah:
That`s all well and good for the ladies, after all, it`s not fattening and it is good for you, honest!.

A vigorous knee trembler is better, burns the calories and tones the calves and glutes.

  7. Lol!! I lost 3 stone doing those midnight aerobics :)
he was rather frisky :) and I got very toned!

Trouble is now I'm 40 all the men are broken :) or they tick you off ..
oh to be in my 20s again the mind is but the body is not :(

  8. Sounds good to me :-D

  9. until my spinal injury i was very active, but somehow my fat % crept up a few years ago. As i was muscular this just made me look fatter than i was, but i had to lose a good 2 stone.
At my gym i had my bodyfat % taken (the only number worth taking the slightest but of notice to..not BMI, weight or any other rubbish..just, 'how much fat have i got?'...you dont wont to lose weight, you want to lose fat..

1: so the 'secret' is to reduce your carb intake as much as is sensibly possible...you need carbs for much more then exercising so DO NOT eliminate them from you food.

2: eat every 3 hours. little and often. your body will begin to brun fuel far more efficiently when theres a constant supply of nutrients..ie it wont shut down in between meals, then store fat like crazy when you finally eat..ie, like 99.9% of dieters.

3: eat protein with every meal. it prevents hunger, prevents your body from breaking down muscle to use as energy (which obviously keeps you fatter).

4: cardio and weight training if youre serious.

high intensity cardio (HITT) has been proven to be the most effective way of burning fat. look it up.. it takes about 3 minutes but is totally explosive. you body will burn fat as a primary source for over 24hrs after exercise. long cardio sessions break down muscle. muscle burns fat, ergo you will still carry more body fat than you want but weigh less.

This is why most endurance athletes have scrawny bodies with poor muscle tone (marathon runners) but explosive power athletes have the best of both worlds-even lower bodyfat% and much better muscle tone (sprinters).

weight training burns as many (or more) calories than steady cardio. you dont have to be a body builder, but moderate training with weights will boost your testostrone levels, burn high levels of fat, prevent muscle wastage thus keep the furnace 'on'. You may even gain 'weight' but your waistline will reduce, you will burn more fat, become leaner, stonger and reduce your bodyfat %.

You need a combination of cardio and weights (fitness and strength) to acheive the best results as fast as possbile.

Depending on your goals and commitment, i think its possible for any healthy person to still have a fit lean body into their 60s and beyond.
Before my neck injury i had got down from 23% bodyfat to 12% which is the safe limit for a man of my age (41)..12% bodyfat was low enough to have a 6 pack..not bad for a middle aged bloke!

  13. Last year I went on an intensive training session with a personal trainer - one one hour instructed excercise session a week, boxercising, stepping, weightlifting, running etc. I had to back this up with at least half an hours intensive exercise everyday. And he did me a high protein, no carb diet plan which involved a lot of chicken breast and a three/four egg omelette with onion, tomato and mushrooms everyday for breakfast. cut out bread/pasta/rice/spuds completely. I also bought a bicycle through my work Cycle to Work scheme and got 40 percent off. After 13 weeks I'd lost three and a half stone and six inches off my waistband, from 40-34. Before I started I could barely cycle two miles without stopping twice for breath. Afterwards, I did a sponsored 50 mile cycle ride, no problem.
Then I broke my arm falling over on a dodgy pavement, had to stop exercising for three months, piled it all back on again and ended up half a stone heavier than when I started an with a 42 waist. Ah well. Junior has left for university and left behind his weights and cycle cross trainer, so I'm going to try again over the winter...

  14. Losing weight when you're over 40 is a big problem. You can't suddenly turn your fat into muscle like you did in your 20's and 30's by a bit of short-term exercise.
