Hi Folks, I've been commuting to work on the bike this week. It's about 26 miles each way. On the way home on Monday I filled up with Petrol. Roughly 75 miles later I've noticed the fuel gauge and the range suggesting I had another 59 miles left. So, call that 140 miles on a tank. I used to get that on the ZX10R so I don't know if I should be expecting more or not. Why not check the computer fuel consumption? Well there's the thing. I tried cycling through the stats using the switch gear on the left bar but the buttons are sticking down and so I have reset both trips etc. I've read about sticky buttons on Ducati before but was wondering if anyone had a similar issue with the DVT. Not sure what to do about it. I do have some silicone spray but I don't want fannying about if it's the switch that's faulty. Any ideas? Stuart ps. the bike is still great though.
Hmmmm yeah well, I'm trying to be gentle due to running in but I'm not hanging about either. I'm still in sports bike mode. I expect it will improve. The sticking switch is a pain though.
I get about 120 miles before fuel light comes on and that is around 12 to 13 litres. I get between high 38 to 52 - depending on the right hand I normally get around 50 on first half of run and it drops to about 45 by the time I get home - seems i go faster home if i really ride easy then 52 mpg is possible If I ride like I stole it - 38 mpg The rear tyre is at around 3.4mm after 2300 miles - so will get replaced around 3000 miles with exactly same. Early DVT's had sticky buttons - not heard anything for a while - dealer will warantee it.
Hi Simon, I reckon I was premature with my concern over consumption. It's early days yet! I'll mention the buttons when it goes into for it's 650 mile service. I got caught in a damp fog yesterday and when I got to work the bike was covered in a light layer of muck. Perhaps that's what's caused the stickiness. Stuart
Switchgear will stick/needs spraying with contact cleaner every so often, although yours is a new one so shouldn't be happening really, wait until winter though - especially buttons that you don't use regularly and are more exposed/face up like the up button that does the trip reset switch on mine - if terminal a new switch block is about £50 if not under warranty. re mileage and lights, my experience is same as yours, ride to and from work e/day 35 ish round trip a lot on m ways, avg speed about 60-100 and occasional quite a bit more so you will get a max 110-120 miles out of tank with light about 80ish. fill up 2.5 times per week.
Mine had stickyish button at first, after some WD40 and near 5k miles it has not stuck for like ages ages since I sprayed. Fuel consumption really can vary, Ride normally with smooth overtakes and keeping revs under 5k which is easy to do and knock on, Cruising long distance at 80 ish, again good fuel consumption, I often see average at 55+ you will easily get over 200 miles to a brimmed tank, but once you start riding faster, and high speed cruising it does drop dramatically, I use super unleaded. Rear Tyre for me is due to be changed I will be just able to squeeze 5k miles, TBH quite impressed with wear it squares off a little and then you can round it back off quite quickly, but has handled pretty well to end of its life, although most of riding in the last k miles has been dry weather.
Bugs/Proff - thanks for the informative replies. Ok my speed might have something to do with current consumption... As for the switches, I guess you just spray some cleaner/wd40 around the switch edges? Or do you have to dismantle anything. I have to say it's the first bike I've ever had that needs switches lubed. Mind you all my bikes have been much simpler in that department.
I just sprayed around it into the edges, and then wiped over the switches, I have forgotten all about it until your post, and they did not stick like stuck stuck in one position, it was just like sticky and touch it and it would return
Only had my DVT since last Friday but my trip resets to zero every time I stop and switch off, pain in the arris really, fuel gauge is pants IMO, fill it up and most times it only ever reads 3/4 and that's not until I've covered 10 miles or more, though does seem accurate when low / nearly empty. 860 miles last weekend with a mix of motorway 2 up with luggage and a solo 314 mile ride round Gloucestershire into Wales and back with some spirited riding, then mixed A road and Motorway home 2 up with luggage, average was 42 Mpg for the weekend. Absolutely love the bike even though it has a niggle or two.
Your dealer should have done a full software update before he released the bike - the fix has been out 3 weeks or so - so the PDI should have resolved this. I guess it will be done now at first service - make sure to point it out and the fuel gauge - suggest you tell them 2 weeks ahead of time when you book service - that way they can make sure they have a new fuel sendor there too. Bad show on dealer - who did it come from?
I bought the Demonstrator off Ducati Leeds. TBH they were excellent and I pushed them to have the bike ready as I was going to Gloucester for the weekend. I haven't spoken to them about the issues as yet.
Sorry people, another couple of questions: 1) sitting at lights I notice idling can surge a bit - revs rise and fall a bit. Again, not sure if this is just a trait. 2) measuring oil level. I was perving over the bike at lunchtime at work and I'm not sure if it was because of the car park or the fact that the bike was on its centre stand but the oil level looked rather low. I'll get the other half to check the level whilst I hold it level at some point over the weekend but thought I'd check with you guys too. Talking of centre stands, this is a first for me. What a great thing it is! Stuart
Surely on the centre stand it should be level for the oil reading? Was the ground flat? From what people say, some DVT's can burn a bit of oil until first service.
Hi JH, That's what I would have thought. The car park is pretty level. I'll do a proper check at the weekend. If it is using oil it's gone through a fair amount in 300 miles. Stuart
Varying reports on here but a few people have been worried by the oil use, but after first service it's fine. I did buy a part from a user on here that had an oil leak they couldn't solve.
Brand new dvt, the wheels ain't even turned a mile and the front discs are rusty ! the underside edges that should be painted black are just rusty ! Surely that's not right ..
I wish [emoji33] I noted it when it was being delivered so it was as brand new and unused as it gets. I presumed the leading edges of the discs and under edges should be painted black ! And not rusty oh well I suppose they done with using marine stainless. I'll have spray the discs with wd40 to stop the rust, WHAT YA RECON [emoji16] There's one good thing the plastics and seats are 100% perfectly aligned and the termi sounds sick, so the local gangster told me .
