Hi I just got back from France. On about the 3rd tank of petrol out there my speedo starting to freak out. Settled again on the next tank and kept on freaking out for the rest of the week, also flashing the orange warning light. It just showed random numbers, 3 every second. The trip meter went stupid too, I got 100 (something units) for less than 8 litres of petrol although they all count as miles on the odometer... I was passing a Ducati dealer on the way back, they plugged in the diagnostics and told me the speed sensor was finished but as soon as I put a tank of petrol in after getting back to England, the speedo magically fixed itself. I have DP Termis on it with the ECU and filter. Is it possible that the French petrol freaked out my ECU? Is English petrol likely to fix it for good? I can live with that (though not happy about hundreds of extra pretend miles I put on out in France.....)
If the diagnostics stated speed sensor then what you describe is consistent with it. I cannot imagine any circumstance that would make the speedo misbehave as a result of fuel. With fuel it would either run well or run roughly. Check the speed sensor at the rear wheel, look for damage or dirt etc:
Oh! That could be it, it also started to rain when I got back to Folkestone. Could have cleaned the sensor?
(I was thinking ECU/fuel because I googled the orange warning light (on holiday with no handbook) and people were saying it was a lambda issue. Also, if I hold the handblebar button up while starting the ignition it asked me to reset some sort of code and I had no idea what that was)
