Hi all, just joined. I have had a 900SS for years now but have just bought an 2007 ST3s in the Senna Grey and am wondering how many were made, particularly in that year and colour.
Welcome. Don`t know the answer but not many would be a guess. Saw one on flea bay a few weeks ago. Beautiful, and classy. Where did you get it from?
I got it from Middlesborough on Saturday, for a good price with panniers too. I did read on a forum that there are about 50 ST3s but I don't know if that is for both years and both colours of just the grey. It does seem well screwed together.
Just find the answer, 32 registered in 2006 and another 29 in 2007 to make a total of 61. How many of these are the Senna grey I wonder. Never realised they were so rare! DUCATI ST3 S ABS - How Many Left?
Wow so few, there can't be many more non S ABS ST3's from 2004 - 2005 ( I have a 2004 model) you would think given their rarity prices will start rising, though they seem to hold their value well. What is surprising is parts are relatively easy to get hold of, albeit most of the cycle parts are common to the ST2, 3 & 4 and other Ducatis. But there can't be many motorcycles which are rare enough to be counted in the 100s and don't cost an arm and leg to buy and maintain (if you're prepared to DIY).
So true, the rise of the adventure bike was well under way by 05 which led to the end of the ST. Funny how things are starting to go full circle. The original adventure bikes would have 21 inch wheels and big metal boxes i.e. BMW 1150GSA and yet most of the time only to be used on road. Now a lot of the sportier one have 17inch wheels and narrower panniers like the KTM SMT and more recently the Multistrada, as they give better handling and filtering. Same thing just more upright. BMW have just re launched the RS. I had the GSA years ago and more recently the SMT, and recently rode the new RS but didn't fancy spending 14K so looked at alternatives and found the ST. Maybe I'm just ahead of the curve
I have an ST3 with full luggage as my "everyday" bike, silver 05 model, really like riding it. It has a double bubble screen though which I would like to swap for a standard one, anyone got one lying around they'd like to sell or swap? I'm very happy with it otherwise!
As a sports touring machine, I think maintenance and the ''back in the day'' reliability reputation Ducati had hindered the sales. The St3 has a lot in common with the 999 in so far as perhaps they were ahead of their time. You only have to look at the following the 999 is having from the not 'Ducatisti' followers. These people are no longer comparing it to the 916 era but look upon it as the bike they never really noticed and now admire. One thing I've noticed is the St3 owners tend to keep them and the fact my local Ducati specialist always has a st2, 3 or 4 for his own use speaks volumes!
