So I bought a MTS 1200s sport (61 Plate) in Jan 2015. It had just over 8000 miles on it and fsh seemed like a great bike. Got the bike back from the dealers last Friday having been off the road since mid July I decided enough was enough I put 9000 miles on the bike and during this time I had the 15K service done so its been a pretty expensive bike all in all.when I got the bike back it had just had almost £4K of work done which my dealer warranty paid for thank god. Gearbox, suspension ecu, fuel sensor, side stand cut out all failed and of course numerous bolts, screws etc fell off it during general use. I honestly believed the hype that Ducati had got their act together over build quality / reliability issues , how wrong was I ? How long will it be before Ducati realise that if they build a bike thats going to be bought by high mileage intercontinental punters like me and many others they better damn well build it to last. I guess never is the only logical answer. To quote my beloved other half who is a dyed in the wool Yamaha girl " YOU BOUGHT A DUCATI. ARE YOU MAD?!!!!!!!" So today I bought a lovely ugly KTM 1190 Adventure which will still be running long after the MTS is a pile of scrap. Just to emphasise what a good decision this is the damn MTS popped both fork seals on the way to the dealers. Safe journeys and happy warranty claims to you one and all.
I would hope that the later and latest bikes are more reliable. Done 2000 miles on a 2015 DAIR and no warranty problems. Fingers crossed. Ducati wont sit on their laurels, they can ill afford such high warranty claims. Just out of interest I had one of the 1st new model C class Mercedes earlier this year (brand new) Ended up throwing it back to the dealer as it let me down 8 times in 5 months. The point being manufactures generally get it better further down the line.
Sorry to pee on your new purchase matey but I owned the KTM 1190 Adventure and I got rid of it, it was in the dealers with numerous faults all the bloody time. The amount of recalls was un-believable, It went to the KTM/Rocket centre in Blackburn many times and also seemed to live at KTM in Colwyn. The 1190 Adventure had so many problems with very slow starting and let me down in mid France on two occasions so after 5000 miles I part exchanged for the BMW RT1200 LC. It was a shame because it felt nice to ride and a little faster than the Multistrada DVT. You need to fit the side wings to the engine frame to stop the bike toasting your left leg especially in the summer as you get loads of heat from the engine. look on youtube for a company video selling them. I personally feel that KTM and Ducati are very similar. Iv'e had loads of motorcycles and for me the Japanese route seems more reliable. So why do I also own a Multistrada? I have no idea. Maybe I just like Italian motorcycle dealers As for running long after the Ducati well only time will tell. Good luck though matey
Interesting post as I have toyed with getting a multistrada despite having a panigale previously which was the most unreliable bike ever... Currently own a rsv4 which touch wood has been OK.. I just wish the Japanese would build a bike with character and is desirable so I can go back to them.... Funnily enough I tested both the multi dvt and 1190 adventure. Both great bikes and very fast Hope your ktm is more reliable than your multi Good luck
11000 miles on my 2013 pp and no issues at all. shame I haven't done many miles this year, too many Triumphs !
I did 12k miles on my 63 plate M/S Touring, nothing major just minor warranty claims like switch etc. 5k So far on DVT, nothing wrong so far You blame the bike, maybe it was the person before you who owned it and abused it etc. AS others have said, does not matter what brand you have there is always one bad apple in the bunch sometimes
Looks like you bought a lemon. Unfortunately when you buy a bike you either get a good one or a bad one. Every manufacturer builds lemons and they tend to get discussed in forums as we are a complaining bunch. I've had issues with my dvt, but I'm still glad I bought it
...just got mine back from the dealers again....new cat fitted as exit valve had corruded and would not open properly, I think I look after my bike ish! 10K miles from new but there is so much corrosion around th exhaust area. Now I,m not sure the skyhook is working as in touring mode the bike feels rock solid, I've put the suspension settings back to default but have not had time to test ride it yet. .....Ducati ownership is a challenge but worth it..just!
...just got mine back from the dealers again....new cat fitted this time as exit valve had corruded and would not open properly, I think I look after my bike...ish! 63 plate GT with 10K miles from new but there is so much corrosion around th exhaust area. Now I,m not sure the skyhook is working as in any mode the bike feels rock solid, I've put the suspension settings back to default but have not had time to test ride it yet. Anybody know if there is a test which proves the skyhook is working?? .....Ducati ownership is a challenge but worth it..just! I've owned a KTM SMT and it broke down twice! Sorry!
