I take the mick out of Harleys pretty relentlessly but I do like them. I agree with Glid though, if I was buying it wouldn't be a Sportster. There are some properly good bikes among the current crop of big Harleys and they're now competitively priced against other marques (though they still kick the arse out of the accessories catalogue). But the Sportsters feel 20 years out of date. Which is a compliment because they're actually about 40 years out of date. Not enough grunt, too many vibes, miniscule fuel range and appalling riding position (feet forward - yes, long reach to the bars - yes, but not both together). They've become boutique bikes. Great for urban posing but for any sort of mileage I reckon you'd soon get pretty fed up. "Proper" Harleys are a different matter though. I like the Fat Bob as well. Looks great and 100 + lb/ft at 2500 rpm or whatever it is, is never going to get boring. I even like the V Rods (great sound).
I think if you do get it, you'll have more balls than the Scrambler types here- Mervyn aside of course, Mervyn is the epitome of cool. The George Clooney of the forum if you will. Scrambler top speed-120mph Harley 1200 top speed-125mph. Go for it!
Yeah, I'm saying go for it too. Had 2 Harleys; a 1200Sportster then a Dyna Super Glide. Enjoyed 'em both but if had another I'd prob not have a Sportster, nowt wrong with 'em the big twin is much better. Great for a ride out when you're not in a rush!
Harleys are great i love em. Just apreciate the laid back relaxing ride. There is nothing better than a lambretta for blasting around the town.if i had the money i would have both of the above and a dirt bike and a rg500 and the list goes on.....try everything once (except incest and morris dancing).
The XR1200 is the only genuinely decent bike Harley have ever made. Watch out for the plastic tank though, it swells due to ethanol in fuel if you use 95
sure, if yiu can get past the stereo typical bad boy etc ( well if you can get past the stereo typical ducati rider having a small willy and having something to prove then yu half way there ),,,, me i love ( some ) of them,, let me know what you re looking at, maybe we can compare notes ..
im glad im not ya stereo typical ducati rider.. im not sure ive even met one! bit of a stupid statement.....
she says a ducati is a boys bike,,, harley is a mans bike,, i say ok hon i be back around 7 ish.. but i will buy a harley,, sooner or later...
what a load of b.s about stereo types ride what you like and enjoy it always thought being a biker was about individualism not following the herd when I was younger I always got slated by my mates for my choice of Italian machinery instead of the typical biker style of bikes they all rode as long as your riding
