Here's hoping the weather improves so you get chance to ride it before the year is out! Wise move on the replacement body work too, would make me cry to see the original damaged, even by errant wildlife!
I think from memory a full set of body and fuel tank was 22 k euros...front wheel was about 7 grand. It is, after all, a Desmosedici!
Not so much that I can easily afford all this! I've already spent more than I set-out to - but the opportunity of a new rather than used bike was too good to pass-up. If the expensive bits get damaged somehow then I am seriously stuffed. As I am planning to ride this thing on road and track then that is obviously a possibility so I need to think about spending a bit more now to potentially save a lot more later. The QB Carbon stuff is certainly expensive (nearly £2.4K for a full carbon set, £1.3K for GRP) but genuine stuff would be ten times that I gather - and that's if you can get it. My plan would be to wrap the original wheels and bodywork and wrap it in cotton wool somewhere safe. Waiting to see what JHP can offer - they reckon they can do better than QB Carbon.
Take a look at the OZ wheels Dave. I've fitted a rear to a customers Desmo and they work out better 'value' than the usual Marchi options...

I'd heard that to, but not sure the R ran a 6" rear?? Looked in to a few options and the OZ took some beating. Only fitted a 17" rear but matches up with the stock front very well. Biketorqueracing are the UK distributors.
Brave to track a Desmo (but wise). Even braver to do so with all sorts of unobtainium bits on it (possibly foolhardy or just ludicrously optimistic) So swaddling the original gear and tracking cheaper bits sounds like a sound move to me. Call it insurance of a sort.

Yep, dont bother, just get a proper 17. The 999 needs a spacer making up from an engineering shop. Its a pain in the arse, been there and ended up with a 17 from Dymag, with sprocket was less than a grand. In regards to bodywork, dont get carbon, absolutely no point, dropping a bike with £2.4k bodywork plus paint will hurt financially, I have GRP, no difference what so ever in terms of performance. In hindsight I would have gone for no headlights and ran leds as these are not cheap and I wouldnt want to damage them.
That little bike is sitting in my shed ... still needs fixing up after my little off in the DD race at Oulton Park
