Mates insurance excess with MCE for his 848 Evo Corse has more than doubled to 4 figures!! He now has 6 years NCB and no other details regarding him or bike have changed from the year before! Anyone else had the same issue? His Quote was done a few days ago. MCE can't explain it, all they say is 'computer says.....' etc etc. He's obviously none too chuffed and is now looking around. Single bike policy and no mods to bike.
I recently insured my GS and they were ok. There was a huge reduction with it having security items. Try thebikeinsurer web site, at least it will give him an idea on what's being offered.
You will find that as you get older, or the bike value drops, or is modified it drops in and out of different 'Categories' for Underwriters, my Insurance on my Daytona 675R was only £170 but NO underwriter would drop their excess below £600.. completely stupid! I would recommend using an insurance company that offer excess protection, another stupid thing, it's like £30 extra premium to then not have to pay the excess, or reduce it. I haven't got it but noticed some offering it... Yet again.. Insurance is the business we should all be i it seems.
If I remember rightly, when I was with MCE a few years ago I had excesses over a grand on my 1199 because I didn't have a full NCB. However my policy stated that if I did over a thousand pounds worth of damage the insurance would pay the excess. I think they do this to stop you claiming for minor damage. It keeps the premium low which was good for me and I reconed that if the bike so much as fell off the paddock stand in the garage you could probably do more than a grands worth of damage, so I went along with it thinking if the worst came to the worst I not have to pay it. Now I have a full NCB I think my excess is about £300 with Ducati insurance.
Big M, I told my friend to ring Ducati insurance and see what happens. Insurance companies seem to be a law unto themselves. The word of the underwriter seems to be taken as gospel!! What pees me off is they couldn't give a reason. Bike kept in same location, riders licence same as last year etc etc. Just seems like money grabbing to me.
I'm with bennetts, get the bike monday, 1198.. £133 fully comp plus protected ncd Excess was 600 quid though ... they all seemed to quote that or higher ... happy with 133 for the year though
its a fkn farce... just been trying to insure my step son for his first car... 1ltr whaterver 08 09 £3000.00 fully comp £13000.00 3rd party fire theft.. no, thats not a typo £13000.00. was told (as i have been in the past) the reason 3rd party is more ios more people claim on it.. bollocks... now everyone is going fully comp as its cheaper more people will claim on that.. it makes my fkn piss clot....
no these where price comparison sites quotes. i did eventually call to see if there was some sort of mistake and was told it is what it is... 4 x as much to insure 3rd party only even though a claim would be less to cover for obvious reasons... this shit is outa control....
its not actually even funny... im all for higher risk drivers paying a higher premium but how is it even remotely reasonable to cover some one in a high risk category for 3 grand fully comp but 13 grand 3 party? unless the objective is to phase out 3rd party all together so there is no cheaper option. what chance does an 18 year old have if his parents cant afford 80 odd quid a week in insurance alone, weather he use the motor or not... most i speak to my age dont give a rats as it dont affect them.. no jobs, no apprenticeships and no chance of driving a car if ya poorish... great... sorry bout the thread jack....
I'm all for apprenticeships, there is a skill shortage in the UK. Anyway, I think it might just be a tactic to drive cars off the road. Get them to use public transport.
