Seriously???

  1. Blind corner ? then why was he doing 50mph ? it is his responsibility to be able to control his vehicle in the given conditions. guess your of the opinion that the driver who drives 5ft from the car in front at 70mph on the motorway is in the right as the driver in front should move out of the way ?

  2. I presume from your argument that you slow down to 20mph around all blind corners in nation speed zones? Bollocks.

At the end of the day it's illegal for cyclists to ride two (or more) abreast on the public road and cause a hazard. In this case, on the face of it, it seems that the cyclists weren't making any attempt to mitigate the dangers of cycling on a road with a speed limit sufficiently high as to cause serious injury or death.

    Just my 2p.

I have nothing against cyclists that follow the rules and at least make an attempt to be safe and considerate, but unfortunately in my experience they seem to be the minority.

  3. I had no idea it was illegal for them to do so.

Worst I've seen was 5 abreast going up Wrotham Hill of all places.

  4. Part 1 : I never said I did
Part 2 : rule 66 states that it is illegal to cycle MORE than 2 abreast
part 3 : if your going to talk shit at least get your facts right

    just my 2p

  5. Apologies, it's only illegal doing it three abreast... But it's advised to ride in single file for narrow roads or approaching obstacles such as roundabouts or junctions. :)

  6. Obviously posted at the same time as I was correcting myself, but thanks for pointing it out.

I don't think that it's fair to say that he should've doing less when most of us would likely have been doing the same things since he'd already slowed down from the speed limit, according to what's been said. My point is that I highly doubt that you're driving the perfect speed for the conditions all the time so shouldn't be so defensive about it. If you do then so be it, but I highly doubt it.

I wouldn't say I talked any shit to be honest, just made a few points that you clearly don't agree with.

  7. Accepted ;), trust me I have as many arguments with cyclists as you probably do and especially the 15st lycra clad born again sitting astride 5-6grand worth of carbon fibre, but then I have the same with the Van man

  8. I was out cycling in new forest other week with a friend. We came round a corner doing something close to 40mph to find about 35-40 cyclists of all ages about 4 deep and going right across both lanes. Now they really were taking the piss. Had to find a gap pretty quick and they'd be screwed if I was a car.

  9. point 2 : but he should have been doing a speed where he could stop the vehicle in a controlled manner, even if there had been 10 nuns standing in the middle of the road naked he should have been able to stop without ploughing into them ?

  10. Christ what speed were you cycling at then ?, better tell Brailsford to forget about Froome for next years tour

  11. Technically yes, but as I first said it would mean going 20 around every blind corner which would probably be causing more of a hazard in itself. And realistically it's not something that any of us would've done either...

  12. It was just after a downhill section and we were pushing it but like I said doing about 40. Luckily I was looking at road not my clock otherwise be a different story

  13. Following too closely is illegal and completely different; not anything to do with this scenario. The van driver was driving within the law, and probably appropriately given the conditions. It's unreasonable to ask every road user to consider that there may be a herd of slow moving, wide load cyclists around every corner. We have a right to use the roads at the legal speed limits, given the conditions. A slow moving/stationary object isn't a condition, it's a hazard.

Our country is full of winding country lanes and blind corners. If we all did 20mph down them, then why the hell is it 60? We'd get nowhere going that slow.

Either go single file or have a rear rider, high vis, following behind to alert of the hazard. Swap the rear rider every 10 mins or so.

  14. Ooops. Looks like this is desending into one of those 'I know the highway code better than you' type threads.

Glad you got your fairing sorted. Fair play to the cyclist for sorting it out like a decent chap

  15. Van driver blind bend 60 limit like I said in the first message

  16. A few years ago green cycling lanes were introduced near to where I live, one morning I was on the school run with my two daughters. We were stopped at a red light and had two of the van wheels just over into the green strip. An enthusiastic cyclist took offence to this and proceeded to hit the side of my van feigning an accident and went on to fall off in front of us. We thought it was hilarious and applauded his class act! Scratched the van though

  17. If you ride around bends faster than you're able to stop in a safe distance then you want your head looking at. Preferably not by me because if that happens then it's quite possibly too late

  18. I ran into one of them recently. Or rather he ran into me.

I was crossing the road at a set of lights at a very busy junction in that London (the one at Farringdon station, Hatton Garden side, if anyone is interested) and a Lycra lout came bombing through the lights while they were on red, and had been for a while. I was at the very tail end of the crowd who were crossing and without slowing down at all, he swerved round the back of me.

What he obviously didn't notice through his aerodynamic Oakley shades was that I was dragging a (very heavy) trolley suitcase behind me which he hit square on at about 25mph and went arse over tit down the road. The humour and schadenfreude of this situation was further enhanced by the fact that he had those stupid and totally over the top for commuting race shoes and toe clips on, and so he and the bike remained firmly tied together and became hopelessly entangled. He began yelling abuse at me but I just told him it serves him right for running a red light in such a piss taking fashion and walked off, not least because I was standing in the middle of a crossroads at rush hour, while he, happily, had ended up safely out of harm's way in the nearside gutter.

  19. Point made when it comes to cyclist it's never their fault and their mates will alway back them up how ever dangerous they ride with no insurance or liability!!

Red lights for instance everyone else has to stop bar cyclists yet if you knock one of even though your light was green, you have to pay for the damage or with your licence wtf???

  20. Usual anti cyclist bollox and people trying to justify the unjustifiable i.e. traveling around blind bends at a speed whereby you can't stop in the distance you can see.
