Re Spraying Sub Frame Red On My Hyper 796

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by Ryan, Sep 30, 2015.

  1. Just thought i would put this up for interest for anyone who may be thinking about it or possibly could make someone want it also.

I never knew why Ducati made the subframe on the Hypermotard silver in my opinion it just doesn't go!

So I was trying to decide wether to get it re sprayed black or Red.

I have made my decision and it is getting done red.

Taking it up to a well recommended guy in Scotland who deals with bikes only.
Stripped the subframe off tonight took me 50minutes no problems at all. Although might be different building it back up haha.

I will post a picture of it before and then once it's done.

Can give me your opinions, comments and if any of you fancy doing it yourselfs.

Also if any of you guys have already had it done let us see your examples.

    Cheers lads

  2. I had mine powder coated in satin black a long time ago in 08. Probably got some pictures somewhere but imagine yours but with a black subframe.

  3. I was thinking black but iv decided to go red on mine.
Can imagine it made it look good!

If you find your image post it up

  4. I know comfy sofa did his red but think he had some problems matching it up. Should be a thread on here somewhere

  5. Had my subframe done six years ago: 2009 1st picture and currently 2nd picture.

  6. Looks good, the guy who does these bikes is meant to be excellent I have had to take another bit off my bike that is red to get it matched.
But I will post once it's done and use can see what use think on a match.

That's really nice what do you think of that yourself?

  7. I am very pleased with it - the colour match is perfect.

  8. yeah.... The red wasnt quite right.... They just recoated it black..... I dont think i would just "paint" something on a bike with the weather in this country whatever you did paint would eventually just peel and look shitter than before..... Well thats my experience.... Ive seen that happen to engines usually though, hence the xylan finish on my 525.... It literally is everything proof but all surfaces had to be chemically prepared first... And i only got that done as my mate who has all his engines done that way verified that the xylan coating can withstand anything..

  9. Just to add all the stuff that was "painted" on my 2014 zed at the factory peeled so i had to get the lot powder coated as it all peeled off..... Essentially lots of various mild steel formed metal around the engine.. Brackets and stuff...

  10. I see thanks for your input.

I have sent it away to a guy who specialises in this kind of stuff and he has an excellent reputation I am hoping that in this instance he makes does a professional job and comes back perfect with also a guarantee on paintwork carried out.

  11. Well, im not saying yours will be shit but everything ive seen - (and done myself - years ago I might add) has been - ive found consistently the powder coating is the bare minimum for coating for me....I had the hyper for a couple of years and got the coating on the subframe early on in the time I had it and the whole rear end had to come for for various reasons for upgrades and cleaning and the subframe always cleaned up really well....hopefully ill be able to ride the ktm through the shittest weather....snow, salt, rain and it should after a jet wash look like this...

  12. Looks brilliant
Yes fingers crossed will just have to wait and see how I get on with it.

  13. I haven't done this myself but I've just bought a hypermotard and the subframe was sprayed yellow! Not seen one done like it before (there may be a reason for that) but in the metal I think it looks really good.
This pic was taken on the day I bought it and the Breil stickers have now been removed.

  14. Different isn't it!
    Yes it's very nice.
    And enjoy the new hyper

  15. Love the dlc forks....

  16. They look brilliant don't they!

I wanted to put them on my 796 but I think they are a different fitment

  17. Yeah... I think youd need the yokes as well...

  18. That's the subframe complete and fitted and I must say from
The naked eye I cannot see any difference.
The guy has done an excellent job more than happy with it and he only took £85!

  19. Yep - I like that....85 quid is a lot of dosh though (from recollection mine cost 30 quid to powdercoat) - nice all the same...

  20. £85 for a good job is a bargain in my book.
I'm a strong believer of getting what you pay for I was actually expecting it to be £100+.
Over all a good job no complaints. Bearing in mind it was a company so inc VAT as well.
